Nowadays, it is a common sight to see directors trying their hands at acting. Of late, we have seen many directors coming out to display their acting prowess.
Here, we are listing some of the Mollywood directors who have had a successful stint as actors. Take a look.
Lal
He is the most successful director-turned-actor in Malayalam film industry. Before venturing into acting, Lal was a successful director, pairing with his friend Siddique. Later, he proved his acting skills and went on to win the State Award and national recognition for his performances.
Renji Panicker
Renji Panicker has directed two films and he is well-known as a scriptwriter. But, now he is an actor who is an indispensable part of Malayalam cinema. At present, he is having a dream run as an actor.
Ranjith
Ranjith's acting skills were much noted in the film Thirakkatha, in which he did a very important role. Later, he starred in Gulmohar directed by Jayaraj. He has featured in many other movies in small roles.
Major Ravi
Major Ravi started off his tenure in acting, doing small roles in certain army based films and later in his own films. He did a very notable role in his own film Kandahar. But, it was his role in the film Action Hero Biju, that won him a lot of praises.
Aashiq Abu
Aashiq Abu gave a fine performance in the film Annayum Rasoolum. Aashiq was spot on, in doing the character of a common man.
Shyamaprasad
Shyamaprasad proved that he has got good acting skills, with his performance in the movie 1 By Two. He handled the role of a psychiatrist named Dr Cheriyan and he did fit in perfectly to the character, doing complete justice to the role that he got.
Rafi
Rafi made his debut as an actor with the film Ringmaster, directed by himself. Many didn't identify the director as he came in an all new look. He won praises for his acting skills in the film. He also featured in an important role in the recently released Two Countries.
Most of the them mentioned in the above list did made a mark in the industry as directors and later proved their acting skills when they landed up with some roles in films.
This wasn't very common back in the earlier days of Malayalam cinema. Probably, that jinx was broken by Balachandra Menon, who starred in most of the films directed by himself. Talents like him are pretty rare in Malayalam cinema.
Moreover, now it is a common sight to see directors playing some minor roles in their own films. Recently, we saw Alphonse Puthren doing a very important role in the film Premam. He received a lot of praises for his performance.
Of late, more and more directors have been showing their willingness to display their acting skills in films. Jude Anthany Joseph, who debuted as a director with Ohm Shanthi Oshana was seen playing important roles in Premam and Action Hero Biju. The director would be seen once again on-screen in the film Thoppil Joppan starring Mammootty.
