Well, in comparison to the movies in Bollywood, multi-starrers are lesser in number in Mollywood. Obviously, budget is a big constraint for an industry like Mollywood.
Nonetheless, we have had some multi-starrer movies, which did hit the right chords. These films didn't ride on the market value of the stars alone, but also made an impact as quality movies.

The film Kolilakkam, which was yesteryear superstar Jayan's last movie, was big in various aspects. Most importantly, the film had the presence of a huge star like Jayan. Apart from him, the film also featured actors like, Sukumaran, Soman, Madhu etc.,in important roles. The film had all the ingredients of a perfect mass masala movie and was a huge success at the box office.
Padayottam, was a real big movie of those days. The film, which released in the year 1982, had stalwarts like Prem Nazir, Madhu etc., in the lead roles. Apart from them, the film also featured upcoming sensations of those days like Mammootty, Mohanlal, Shankar etc., in important roles. Padayottam, directed by Jijo, is a landmark movie in the history of Malayalam cinema, and deserves to find a top position in this list.
No. 20 Madras Mail (1990)
We love to watch this movie, over and again, don't we? Such is the cult status attained by this film. It is always a pleasure to see Mammootty and Mohanlal share the screen space and this was one of the best movies from this combination.
Dhruvam, is still considered as one of the best action thrillers of all time. Apart from Mammootty, the film did feature Suresh Gopi and Jayaram in important roles. Both these actors were the upcoming stars of those days and Dhruvam, definitely is one of the best multi-starrers of Mollywood.
Harikrishnans saw the reunion of Mammootty and Mohanlal, after a break of close to 7 years. Well, the movie came in as a big surprise for the fans of both the actors and the movie received a great response at the box office.
Summer In Bethlahem (1998)
This film shouldn't be considered as a multi-starrer alone. The film, had a beautiful storyline written by Ranjith and brilliant craftsmanship of Sibi Malayil in it. Summer In Bethlahem, which featured actors like Suresh Gopi, Jayaram and Manju Warrier in the lead roles is definitely one of the best multi-starrer movies of Mollywood.
How can we forget this movie, which really was a big sensation, back then? Classmates, directed by Lal Jose had all the young actors of those days in it. The film, which was a campus based story, featured actors like Prithviraj, Jayasurya, Indrajith, Narein, Kavya Madhavan etc., in important roles.
It is not an easy task to bring together all the superstars of an industry for a movie. But, Mollywood did it with Twenty 20, directed by Joshiy. In fact, the film had all the prominent stars and actors of the industry in it. Kudos to the entire team for coming up with a movie, which gave due importance to all the actors of the industry.
Bangalore Days (2014)
Bangalore Days can be considered as the Twenty-20 of youngsters. The film did feature young sensations like Dulquer Salmaan, Nivin Pauly, Fahadh Faasil and Nazriya Nazim in the lead roles. Anjali Menon did weave a perfect movie with these actors giving the Mollywood audiences, a movie to treasure.
Only films featuring big stars of Mollywood have been considered in the above list. In fact, the mother of all multi-starrers in Malayalam was Twenty 20, since the movie featured Mammootty, Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi, Dileep, Jayaram and host of other actors in important roles.
With due course of time, there has been an increase in the number of multi-starrer movies. The budget constraints are diminishing up to an extent and that definitely has paved way for such movies in Malayalam. We hope that the industry would give more number of multi starrers in the coming days.
