Storyline
Oppam
was
in
the
lines
of
a
thriller
and
the
film
narrated
an
event
in
the
life
of
Jayaraman,
a
lift
operator
who
is
blind.
On
the
other
hand,
Pulimurugan
was
all
about
Murugan,
who
is
a
man
well-known
for
taming
tigers.
Comparing
both
is
a
tough
task,
but
as
far
as
the
storyline
and
screenplay
are
considered,
Oppam
definitely
ranks
above
Pulimurugan.
Oppam
had
a
nicely
layered
screenplay,
with
the
movie
never
going
off
the
track.
On
the
other
hand,
Pulimurugan
had
an
average
script,
which
had
all
the
necessities
and
cliches
of
commercial
potboilers.
Making
Style
–
Priyadarshan
Or
Vysakh?
This
is
where
Pulimurugan
scores
the
same
or
tad
higher
than
Oppam.
Priyadarshan
did
make
an
amazing
comeback
with
Oppam.
The
making
of
the
film
was
the
biggest
high
point
of
the
movie,
with
the
director
adapting
himself
well
to
the
new
ways
of
film
making.
On
the
other
hand,
Vysakh
came
up
with
a
never-seen
before
kind
of
a
product
with
Pulimurugan.
Well,
it
has
to
be
said
it
is
the
excellent
packaging
by
Vysakh
that
helped
the
movie
look
good
on
the
screen.
Mohanlal
–
Jayaraman
Or
Murugan?
Both
the
films
had
the
Complete
Actor
Mohanlal
in
the
lead
role.
In
Oppam,
he
played
the
character
of
a
blind
man
whereas
in
Pulimurugan,
he
played
the
role
of
a
hunter.
If
we
take
a
close
look,
we
could
understand
that
Mohanlal's
performance
in
Oppam
stands
way
above
than
that
of
his
performance
in
Pulimurugan.
In
Pulimurugan,
he
had
to
don
the
action
hero
avatar,
which
he
has
done
many
times
in
the
past..
But,
in
Oppam,
we
saw
a
completely
different
Mohanlal,
with
the
actor
excellently
portraying
the
role
of
Balaraman,
a
blind
man.
At
the
same
time,
due
credits
must
be
given
to
the
way
he
performed
some
breath-taking
action
sequences
in
Pulimurugan.
Supporting
Cast
And
Their
Performances
Disappointingly,
none
of
the
supporting
casts
in
Pulimurugan,
did
have
an
author-backed
role
to
perform.
Even
the
villain
character
were
plain
with
nothing
great
to
perform.
But,
Oppam
had
some
scintillating
performance
by
its
supporting
actors.
Be
it
Maamukoya,
Nedumudi
Venu
or
Anusree,
all
of
them
stayed
loyal
to
their
role.
More
importantly,
the
role
of
the
antagonist
played
by
Samuthirakkini,
made
a
huge
impact.
Songs
&
BGM
Well,
songs
&
BGM
have
to
be
considered
separately
while
comparing
these
two
films.
Oppam
had
some
beautiful
songs
set
to
tune
by
newcomers
4
Musics
but,
the
songs
of
Pulimurugan
were
not
up
to
the
mark.
Having
said
that,
Pulimurugan
scored
heavily
in
the
BGM
department,
with
Gopi
Sunder
setting
up
the
tone
for
a
perfect
action
entertainer.
Entertainment
Quotient
The
amount
of
success
that
these
films
enjoyed,
would
give
an
answer
to
this
question.
Pulimurugan,
was
definitely
high
on
entertainment
quotient,
adding
all
the
ingredients
of
mass-masala
entertainer.
On
the
other
hand,
Oppam
did
stand
close
to
the
thriller-genre
and
in
comparison,
was
lower
in
entertainment
factor.
