Recently, there was a news that Arya is all set to play an important role in Mammootty's upcoming film My Great Father, which would be directed by Haneef Adeni.
Well, it is not for the first time that a Tamil actor is becoming a part of a Malayalam film. In fact, there are many other popular Tamil actors, who have played important roles in Malayalam films.

Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan had acted in three Malayalam films. The first one was the film School Master(1964), in which he did a guest appearance. He was also a part of the Malayalam film Thacholi Ambu(1978). Later, in the year 1996, he joined hands with Mohanlal for the film Oru Yathramozhi, directed by Prathap Pothen.
Yesteryear actor Gemini Ganesan was a popular face in Malayalam films. He has acted in Malayalam films like Aashadeepam, Oral Koodi Kallanayi, Karutha Rathrikal, Kumara Sambhavam etc. of which Kumara Sambhavam was the most famous.
Kamal Haasan made his presence felt in Mollywood as a child actor. Later, it was Malayalam films, which gave him the much needed break as a lead actor. He has acted in close to 40 Malayalam films which include films like, Kanyakumari, Madanolsavam, Eeta, Rasaleela etc.
Rajinikanth has not acted in that many Malayalam films. He has acted in just two Malayalam films so far. The films were Alavuddinum Albhutha Vilakkum and Garjanam, both of which were Tamil-Malayalam bilinguals.
Prabhu made his debut in Malayalam films with the film Kaalapani, which had Mohanlal in the lead role. Later, he also featured in Malayalam films like Malayali Mamanu Vanakkam, War And Love, Pramani etc.
Vikram has acted in a good number of Malayalam films, much before he became a big star in Kollywood. He had done supporting roles in Malayalam films like Dhruvam, Sainyam, Mafia, Indraprastham etc.
Madhavan is a popular actor in Kerala as his Tamil films are hugely accepted in the state. The actor made his Mollywood debut with the film Made In USA, directed by Rajeev Anchal.
Jiiva did make a big debut in Malayalam, with the film Keerthichakra, which had Mohanlal in the lead role. The film directed by Major Ravi had the Tamil actor in a meaty role and he won praises for his performance in the film.
Sarathkumar made a smashing debut in Malayalam with the film Pazhassi Raja, in which he did a prominent role. Later, he also featured in films like Christian Brothers, Metro, Oridathoru Post Man etc.
In fact, Prasanth's second film as an actor was in Malayalam. He played a crucial role in the critically acclaimed film Perumthachan, which had its script written by M T Vasudevan Nair.
Srikanth, who became a popular actor in Kollywood with Tamil films like Roja Koottam, Parthiban Kanavu etc. has featured in Malayalam films like Uppukandam Brothers Back In Action, Hero, Buddy etc.
Sasikumar has just acted in one Malayalam movie, so far. The actor played a role in the film Masters, directed by Johny Antony and featuring Prithviraj in the lead role. Sasikumar did an equally important role in the film.
Apart from the above listed actors, popular Tamil actor Dhanush has also been a part of a Malayalam film. He played a guest role in Mammootty and Dileep starrer Kammath and Kammath.
Arya, had played an important role in Prithviraj starrer Urumi, which released in 2011. Later, he also opted to act in the film Double Barrel, which was a multi-starrer.
In fact, Arya is also a part of the production house August cinema, which is co-owned by Prithviraj, Santhosh Sivan, Shaji Nadesan. Double Barrel was produced by August Cinema. Incidentally, My Great Father is also being produced under the banner of August Cinema.
We have seen lead Malayalam actors opting to do Tamil films. Even young actors like Prithviraj, Dulquer Salmaan, Nivin pauly etc. have acted in Tamil films.
But, it hasn't been the same with Tamil actors as it is hard for Malayalam films to afford their remuneration. We hope that more and more Tamil actors would come up to work in Malayalam films in the future.
