Mohanlal starrer Pulimurugan has had a fantastic run at the box office, so far. The film, in its due course of run, has eclipsed many existing box office records.
The film has appealed to all sections of the audiences alike. In Kochi multiplexes, the film is all set to register a new record. Interestingly, the film crossed the 2-Crore mark in Kochi multiplexes within just 14 days of its release.
Not many movies have managed to cross this figure. Take a look at the other Malayalam films, that crossed the 2-Crore mark.
Jacobinte Swargarajyam (2016)
Jacobinte Swargarajyam, which released during the Vishu season, this year is the highest grossing Malayalam movie at the Kochi multiplexes. The film, directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan grossed 2.94 Crores from multiplexes.
Bangalore Days (2014)
Bangalore Days, which released in the year 2013, had a magnificent run at the Kochi multiplexes. The film made a gross collection of 2.87 Crores from the multiplex centres in Kochi. It has to be noted that the number of multiplex screens were lesser during that time.
Nivin Pauly's Premam did set a trend back then. The film did set a number of records in Kochi multiplexes. Reportedly, the film grossed 2.75 Crores from the multiplex screens in Kochi.
Amar Akbar Anthony (2015)
Amar Akbar Anthony came in with the label of being a comedy entertainer and the film did witness a surge in collections after good reviews started to pour in. The film amassed 2.70 Crores from Kochi multiplexes.
Two Countries (2015)
This is the one Dileep movie, which crossed the 2-Crore mark at multiplex screens in Kochi. The film grossed a whopping amount of 2.58 Crores from the multiplex centres in Kochi.
Drishyam, which released way back in the year 2013, was one of the first films to cross the 2-Crore mark. The film had an amazing run in Kochi and reportedly, grossed 2.44 Crores from the multiplex screens.
Ennu Ninte Moideen (2015)
Ennu Ninte Moideen did have a slow start at the box office. But, with amazingly positive reviews, the film became a front-runner in Kochi multiplexes. The film made a collection of 2.35 Crores from the multiplexes alone.
Oru Vadakkan Selfie (2015)
Nivin Pauly starrer Oru Vadakkan Selfie received the best of responses from Kochi. The maximum collection came in from Kochi as the film went on to gross 2.20 Crores from multiplex centres alone.
Charlie had an amazing start at the Kochi multiplexes. The film did set some records in the opening week itself, with the movie running to packed houses. In the final run, the movie made a gross collection of 2.15 Crores from the Kochi multiplexes.
Maheshinte Prathikaaram (2016)
Maheshinte Prathikaaram did have a comparatively slower start. But, with the film receiving some glowing reviews, the movie went on to establish its prominent presence in Kochi multiplexes. The film grossed 2.05 Crores in the final run.
As mentioned above, Jacobinte Swargarajyam is the highest grossing Malayalam film at the Kochi multiplexes. Pulimurugan has grossed 2.39 Crores, so far. The film has also registered 350 housefull shows in just 14 days of run. And by all possibilities the film would break the record currently held by the Nivin Pauly starrer.
Interestingly, it is the Hollywood movie Jungle Book, which is the highest grosser when movies from all languages are considered. The film went on to gross 3.72 Crores from Kochi multiplexes. Going at this rate, Pulimurugan might break that record, as well.
