Kerala Box Office! Top 5 First Day Grossers Of 2016!
Well, this Pooja season has turned out to be quite an eventful one for the Malayalam cinema. The industry witnessed the release of the films of both the superstars, Mammootty and Mohanlal.
Mohanlal's Pulimurugan and Mammootty's Thoppil Joppan hit the theatres on the same day. It was Pulimurugan, who won the first day race by creating a box office record.
Here, we list the top 5 first day grossers of Mollywood in the year 2016, so far.
Pulimurugan
According to certain reports, Pulimurugan has crossed the 4-Crore mark on the opening day itself. The film, which released in 166 theatres in Kerala alone, did witness a huge advanced booking. Reportedly, the film grossed 4.05 Crores in the opening day.
Kasaba
Kasaba was one of the biggest releases of Mammootty, this year. The film had a grand opening and grossed 2.48 Crores on the opening day itself. It broke the record held by Dulquer Salmaan starrer Kali.
Kali
Kali, which released in the month of March did have a grand opening at the box office. The film, which released in good number of theatres did amass 2.34 Crores on the opening day.
Action Hero Biju
Nivin Pauly's Action Hero Biju, which is one of the biggest hits of this year so far, did have a good opening at the box office. Reportedly, the film did garner 1.59 Crores on its opening day.
Thoppil Joppan
Thoppil Joppan is Mammootty's most recent release, which hit the theatres last Friday. The film released along with Mohanlal's Pulimurugan. According to initial reports, the film fetched 1.55 Crores on the opening day itself.
Wide releasing, good promotional activities especially through social networking sites etc., have considerably helped Malayalam movies in garnering huge initial collections.
Well, the year 2016, so far has been a good one for Malayalam cinema. The 3 films from the above list, which are Mohanlal's Pulimurugan , Mammootty's Kasaba and Dulquer Salmaan's Kali are also among the top 5 first day grossers of all time.
Most of the above mentioned films also went on to become big hits. That again is a good sign for the industry. The year ahead also holds good prospect for the industry, with some big movies all set to hit the theatres.
