With the advent of multiplex centres in Kerala, there has definitely been a surge in box office collections for Malayalam films. In fact, a major chunk of collections do come from the Kochi multiplex centres, which is now among the choicest centres for the moviegoers.
Quality Malayalam films do enjoy a good run in such centres. In the past, a film collecting 1 Crore from a particular centre was a rare feat but now, we see movies grossing 1-Crore in no time.

Pulimurugan did have a fantastic opening at Kochi multiplexes and with some amazing positive reviews pouring in, there was a huge increase in collections in the later days. Reportedly, the film went on to cross the 1-Crore mark within 8 days and this Mohanlal starrer tops the list.
In fact, Charlie did set a record opening day collections at Kochi multiplexes. The opening weekend was also a grand one for the film with the movie minting huge collections. The Dulquer Salmaan starrer easily entered the 1-Crore club within 9 days of its release.
Jacobinte Swargarajyam (2015)
The case of Jacobinte Swargarajyam is no differnt. The film had an extraordinary run at the Kochi multiplexes and it is only behind Pulimurugan in total gross collection from the multiplexes. The film took 9 days to cross the 1-Crore mark.
Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan (2016)
Well, this movie is the latest entrant to the top 5 list. The movie has had a phenomenal run at the box office and is slowly emerging as a blockbuster. According to the reports, the film which released on November 18, 2016 has already crossed the 1-Crore mark at the Kochi multiplexes. The movie took just 10 days to achieve this feat.
Amar Akbar Anthony (2015)
Nadirshah's debut directorial venture Amar Akbar Anthony is the movie, that holds the fifth spot in this list. The movie, which had Prithviraj, Jayasurya and Indrajith in the lead roles did have a consistent run at the Kochi multiplexes and the movie crossed the 1-Crore mark within 10 days of its release.
This year's films like Mohanlal starrer Oppam, Dulquer Salmaan's Kali, Nivin Pauly's Jacobinte Swargarajyam, Fahadh Faasil's Maheshinte Prathikaaram etc., also enjoyed a grand run at the Kochi multiplexes.
Among the movies from the above list, Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan and Pulimurugan are still continuing their good run at Kochi multiplex centres. Pulimurugan, which has completed 50 days of its run is slowly approaching the 4-Crore mark at these centres.
Meanwhile, Kattappanayile Rithwik Roshan is the present front-runner at Kochi multiplexes. With no stiff competitions till the Christmas season, the movie is expected to make it big.
