Manam, the 2014-released Telugu fantasy drama is a truly special movie in all aspects. Manam, which was the last film of legendary actor Nageswara Rao Akkineni, was produced by Akkineni Family, for Annapoorna Studios.
The Vikram Kumar-directed movie featured the Nageswara Rao, along with his son Akkineni Nagarjuna and grandson Naga Chaitanya in the lead roles. Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Shriya Saran essayed the female leads.
Manam, which is set in various time periods, deals with the concepts of eternal love and rebirth. Nagarjuna's younger son Akhil Akkineni made his acting debut with the movie, which had Amitabh Bachchan in a cameo role.
Let us see who would fit into the characters of Manam, if it is made in Malayalam now....
Mammootty As Seetharaman/Nageswar
Mammootty is undoubtedly the best choice for the roles of Seetharaman, the London-returned barrister/car enthusiast who lived in 1920's and the successful modern businessman, Nageswar. The megastar can surely essay the roles played by Nagarjuna in the original, to near perfection.
Madhu As Chaithanya
Madhu is the only Malayalam actor, who is eligible to replace the legendary actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao. He will be the best choice for the role of Chaithanya, the old man who tries to unite Nageswar and Dr Anjali, who resemble his deceased parents.
Dulquer Salmaan As Radha Mohan/Nagarjun
The obvious choice for the roles, Radha Mohan, the workaholic man who ignores his wife and Nagarjun, the flirtatious college student. It will be truly interesting to watch Dulquer Salmaan playing the father to his real-life dad, Mammootty.
Nithya Menen As Krishna Veni/Priya
Nithya Menen's matured acting skills and exceptional onscreen chemistry with Dulquer Salmaan makes her the perfect choice for the roles of Krishna Veni and Priya. We are sure that she play the traditional housewife and bubbly college student, with the same ease.
Mamtha Mohandas As Ramalakshmi/Dr Anjali
Mamtha Mohandas is a great choice for the roles Ramalaksmi, the village woman who lived in 1920's and Dr Anjali. She is an actress who has the potential to play any type of role, and can surely replace Shriya Saran if Manam is remade in Malayalam.
Pranav Mohanlal As Akhil
It will be truly a treat for the Malayalam movie audiences, if Mammootty, Dulquer Salmaan, and Pranav Mohanlal appeared in one frame together. We cannot really think of any other better choice, for the surprise cameo appearance in the climax sequence.
Manam, which was touted as the 'befitting send off' to ANR, featured all the actors of the Akkineni family, to the much excitement of the Telugu audiences. Amala Akkineni, Nagarjuna's wife, also made a cameo appearance in a song sequence.
Interestingly, ANR's role in Manam was named after his elder grandson Chaithanya. His son Nagarjuna appeared in the movie in the name Nageswar, while grandson Naga Chaitanya appeared as Nagarjuna.
Several prominent production banners of Tamil and Bollywood industries, including actor Suriya's 2D Entertainment tried to bag the remake rights of Manam. But, Akkineni family has no plans to sell the remake rights and wants Manam to remain as the family movie.
