When Directors Turned Writers For Their Friends

Writer-cum-directors less often provide their scripts to other directors. But, there have been instances when established directors went on to write scripts for their friends, or to make their associate an independent director.

So, let us take a look at such instances when established directors went on to write scripts for other director friends.

Ranjith

Ranjith made a mark in the film industry as a writer; however, he later became an independent director through Raavanaprabhu. After that, Ranjith went on to write two scripts for other directors. One for his assistant and the other for his friend.

'Ammakkilikkoodu', was written by Ranjith for his long-time associate Padmakumar, making him an independent director. Similarly, he wrote 'Baavuttiyude Naamathail' for G. S. Vijayan that marked the comeback of the director.

Fazil

There were two instances when Fazil wrote scripts for other directors. At first, he wrote and produced 'No:1 Snehatheeram Bangalore North', which was directed by his friend Sathyan Anthikkad.

In the second instance, he wrote a script for his associate Murali Krishnan. This movie was 'Sundara Killadi', which again was produced by Fazil.

Priyadarshan

Most recently, Priyadarshan wrote a script for his friend and his long-time associate Murali Nagavally. The film that was named 'Wanted' had Mohanlal playing an important role in it.

Rafi-Mecartin

The duo of Rafi and Mecartin started off in films as scriptwriters to directors like Rajasenan. But, later on, they forayed into direction through the movie 'Puthukkottayile Puthumanavalan'.

After that, they wrote 'One Man Show', which was the directorial debut of Shafi. They again gifted Shafi with the movie 'Mayavi', which went on to become a big success in the Malayalam film industry.

Vineeth Sreenivasan

'Oru Vadakkan Selfie', directed by G. Prajith had the script written by Vineeth Sreenivasan. G. Prajith earlier worked as an Associate Director for the films directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan.

Jeethu Joseph

Jeethu Joseph is all set to write a script for another director. This untitled film will be directed by Jeethu's friend Ansar Khan, who has assisted directors like Viji Thampi and Blessy.

Biju Menon and Indrajith would be playing the lead roles in this film, which is touted to be a thriller, set on the background of a forest.

Well, all of the above examples sure stand as a testimony to the good friendship that prevails in the industry.
