When Mohanlal Worked With Debut Directors!

One criticism that Mohanlal has had to face over the years is that the actor is not willing to work with debut directors.

But, the fact is that Mohanlal has worked with a few debut directors and some of them have later turned out to make it big in the industry. At the same time, majority of the instances have landed in a failure.

Here we list the films in which Mohanlal worked with debut directors and the results that followed. (Only films post 2000 have been considered).

Mohanlal allotted the dates for Major Ravi's directorial debut Keerthichakra. The film, which was an army based movie went on to fetch great reviews and box-office collections. Major Ravi also established himself as an independent film-maker.

Bhagavan, which marked the directorial debut of Prasanth, had Mohanlal in the role of a doctor. The film, which was shot in 12 hours of time was high on expectations. But, Bhagavan didn't deliver the necessary results and failed miserably at the box-office.

Red Wine marked the directorial debut of Salaam Bappu. Mohanlal played an important role in the film along with Fahadh Faasil and Asif Ali. The film, despite getting mixed reviews, didn't do well at the box-office.

In a recent interview given to Grihalakshmi Magazine, the actor had stated that he won't allot dates for debutantes, who come with the experience of being an assistant director alone.

It is a fact that the actor has worked with experienced directors more, but it should also be noted that he has given dates to some debutantes, but most of the instances didn't fetch him the required success.

There are some talented directors who debuted with a Mohanlal movie. Rosshan Andrrews, one of the most acclaimed film-makers of this era, made his debut as an independent director with a Mohanlal film.

Similarly, Major Ravi who gave a new definition to army based movies in Malayalam also debuted with a Mohanlal film.

At the same time, it also should be noted that the actor is also willing to work with young directors. He has worked with young directors like Anwar Rasheed, Jeethu Joseph, Amal Neerad etc.
