Best Of 2016 Results: Mohanlal & Pulimurugan Are The Big Winners!

The year 2016 was a splendid one for the Malayalam film industry with some good films and performances ruling the roost. We gave the chance to our dear audiences to pick the Best of 2016 through an online poll, that commenced on December 17, 2016.
Polls were put up for 8 different categories namely Best Movie, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Debut Performance, Best Actor In A Negative Role etc.
Now, the wait has come to an end with the poll having ended today. The big results are out and we have to say that we got to witness a neck-and-neck competition in many categories. The big winners are obviously Mohanlal and Pulimurugan, with the actor and the movie being the favourites of the audiences.

Best Actor – Mohanlal
Mohanlal has been voted as the Best Actor of the year for his phenomenal performances in the movies Oppam and Pulimurugan. The competition was intense between Mohanlal and Dulquer Salmaan, but finally it was the Complete Actor who won the title.
Best Actress – Aparna Balamurali
Overtaking the likes of actresses like Nayanthara and Manju Warrier, it is Maheshinte Prathikaaram fame Aparna Balamurali, who has been chosen as the Best Actress of the year 2016, for her portrayal of Jimcy in the film.
Best Movie – Pulimurugan
Pulimurugan, the biggest movie of the year 2016 has been selected by the viewers as the Best Malayalam Movie of 2016. There was a neck-and-neck race between Pulimurugan and Kammatipaadam, but the former won it hands down.
Best Director – Vysakh
Here is the man who gave a film, which was beyond the imaginations of Mollywood. And rightly, the audiences have selected Vysakh, the director of magnum opus Pulimurugan, as the Best film-maker of the year 2016.
Best Debut Performance – Manikandan Achari
Manikandan Achari, who impressed one and all with his portrayal of Balan Chettan in 2016 movie Kammatipaadam, is the man who topped the list of debut performances with 6965 votes to his credit.
Best Actor In A Negative Role - Samuthirakani
All those who watched Oppam would get to know the impact that this man made with the portrayal of Vasudevan, a menacing villain. Rightly, Samuthirakkani has been selected as the Best Actor In A Negative Role by the audiences.
Best Supporting Actor – Vinayakan
Vinayakan, the man who gave a breathtaking performance as Ganga, in Kammatipaadam has been voted as the Best Supporting Actor of 2016. The actor won the title by grabbing 7834 votes, leaving all other nominees far behind.
Best Supporting Actress – Asha Sarath
The year 2016 was a special one for Asha Sarath with Pavada and Anuraga Karikkin Vellam giving her two power roles to perform. The actress, rightly deserved the title for the Best Supporting Actress of 2016 and she won the title with 3426 votes to her credit.
Apart from Pulimurugan, it was the film Kammatipaadam that managed to draw maximum number of votes in different categories. The Dulquer Salmaan starrer did give a stiff competition to Mohanlal's Pulimurugan in the Best Film category.
Similarly, the race for Best Actor was also a tight one with Dulquer Salmaan and Mohanlal overtaking one another in due course of time.
