The Kerala State Film Awards 2016 results have been widely accepted by both the audiences and industry members. It is undoubtedly the most appreciated State Film Award results in the past 5 years.
Recently, the jury members, including director Kamal opened up why they selected Vinayakan and Rajisha Vijayan for the Best Actor trophies. Interestingly, no popular actors managed to enter the final round of Best Actor award,
According to Kamal, all the three main actors of Kammatipaadam, including Dulquer Salmaan, Vinayakan, and Manikandan Achari were considered for the Best Actor award. Finally, both Vinayakan and Manikandan entered the final round.
Another actor who entered the final round was Kaladharan, who essayed the central character in Ottayal Patha. Finally, the jury decided to honour Vinayakan with Best Actor trophy considering his excellent performance. Manikandan and Kaladharan bagged the Second Best Actor award and Special Jury Mention respectively.
When it comes to the Best Actress award, along with Rajisha Vijayan, Rima Kallingal (Kaadu Pookkunna Neram), and Surabhi Lakshmi (Minnaminungu) had entered the final round. But, the jury selected Rajisha, considering her matured performance in Anuraga Karikkin Vellam, despite being a newcomer.
Along with Vidhu Vincent (Manhole), Rajeev Ravi (Kammatipaadam) was also considered for the Best Director award. But the exceptional portrayal of lives of manhole workers made Vidhu more eligible for the award.
The biggest competition took place in the Best Movie category. Along with Manhole, Guppy, Ottayal Patha, Maheshinte Prathikaaram, Kaadu Pookkunna Neram, Aaradi, and Pinneyum, were considered for the award.
Adoor Gopalakrishnan's Pinneyum was eliminated in the first round. From the rest of the movies, Manhole bagged the Best Movie award, when Ottayal Patha was selected as the Second Best Movie. Maheshinte Prathikaaram won the award for Best Popular Movie With Aesthetic Value.
