Aamir Khan starrer Rang De Basanti, the Bollywood movie which released in the year 2006, is one such film, which is loved by one and all even now. The film is also considered to be one of the best movies of Aamir Khan, so far.
Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Rang De Basanti did have a host of other actors along with Aamir Khan. Siddharth, Kunal Kapoor, Sharman Joshi, Atul Kulkarni, Soha Ali Khan etc., played vitally important roles in the movie. Moreover, actor Madhavan also appeared in the movie doing a very special cameo.
Wouldn't it be really interesting if Rang De Basanti is remade in Malayalam? If that happens, who all would be the perfect choices to replace Aamir Khan and company in such a remake? In this week's Mollywood Retake, we discuss about this interesting scenario.
Dulquer Salmaan As Daljit Singh (Aamir Khan)
The character Daljit Singh aka DJ is the leader of the gang. He is a fun-loving, happy-go-lucky guy who lives his life to the fullest, but the character does undergo a change midway. Aamir Khan did take this particular character to another level with his style of presentation. Coming to Malayalam, Dulquer Salmaan would be the perfect choice, as he can handle both the layers of the character effectively, in his own style. He can look cool and intense at the same time.
Tovino Thomas As Karan Singhania (Siddharth)
Karan Singhania, who is the son of a rich businessman, has a rather serious outlook and has his own views on certain things happening in the society. Siddharth was apt in this particular role and if a remake happens in Malayalam, we feel that Tovino Thomas will fit in perfectly to this role. Think about the climax sequence and the character's conversation over radio, the actor will surely nail it with his performance.
Unni Mukundan As Aslam Khan (Kunal Kapoor)
Kunal Kapoor did portray the role of Aslam Khan, the character which has an emotional angle associated with it and he is also one of the most well-mannered guy of the gang. With good scope for performance, this particular role will be safe in the hands of Unni Mukundan, if a remake happens.
Neeraj Madhav As Sukhi Ram (Sharman Joshi)
It was Sharman Joshi who portrayed the role of Sukhi Ram, in the original. The character has funny shades associated with it. In Mollywood, Neeraj Madhav is one such young actor whocan fit in to the shoes of this character.
Prithviraj As Ajay Rathod (R Madhavan)
In one way or the other, the role of Ajay Rathod, the love interest of Sonia, is one of the most important roles in the movie. This character takes the movie forward. A powerful cameo, which was portrayed brilliantly by Madhavan in the original. If a remake happens, this role should be done by a brilliant actor who has a star value, as well. Considering that, there is no one other than Prithviraj, who could do complete justice to the character.
Bhavana As Sonia (Soha Ali Khan)
Sonia, is the only female member in the gang of Daljit and his friends. The character is also the love interest of Ajay Rathod. It was Soha Ali khan who portrayed this powerful role in the original. If a Mollywood remake happens, Bhavana will be the apt choice for this role and the pair of Prithviraj and Bhavana would look perfect.
Saiju Kurup As Lakshman Pandey (Atul Kulkarni)
This character portrayed by Atul Kulkarni in the original, is an outsider and doesn't belong to Daljit's gang of friends. The character has got strict political views and often holds contradictory views with Daljit and his friends. But, as the story moves forward Lakshman also joins hands with Daljit and team for the mission. If a remake happens, we feel that Saiju Kurup will be apt for this particular role.
Rang De Basanti, is definitely one of the most patriotic and inspirational movies of this century made so far. The movie, which narrated the life of a group of youngsters (portrayed by Aamir Khan and others), did send out a very important message to the society. The film, did even go on to win four National Awards, including the Best Popular Film of 2006.
