Well, the past week was all about The Great Father, the Mammootty starrer, which made a grand release on March 30, 2017. The film, directed by Haneef Adeni was the most awaited movies of this year.
The Great Father did make a bumper opening and has been hogging the limelight, since its release day. Along with that, an update on Mohanlal's upcoming movie Lucifer also caught the attention of Malayalam film audiences. Read about these and other major Mollywood news of the week below.
The Great Father Makes An Earth Shattering Opening
Well, the Mammootty starrer has set some records straight away. The Great Father did make a whopping amount of 4.31 Crores on its opening day and thus eclipsing the record set by Pulimurugan, which made 4.08 Crores on Day 1. Now, The Great Father is the highest Day 1 grosser in Kerala as the film even surpassed the collection of Kabali, which made 4.25 Crores on the opening day in Kerala.
An Important Update On Mohanlal's Lucifer
Mohanlal, Prithviraj, Murali Gopy and Antony Perumbavoor, did call a press conference in Kochi, to give an update on this much awaited movie. The team, after a meeting, stated that the film would go on floors in May 2018.
Gauthami-Srinath Rajendran Marriage
Malayalam actress Gauthami Nair, who made her debut in films with Second Show, got married to film-maker Srinath Rajendran in Alappuzha on April 02, 2017. Srinath Rajendran was the director of her debut movie Second Show, which also marked the debut of Dulquer Salmaan and Sunny Wayne.
Fahadh Faasil-Anwar Rasheed Movie Is On The Cards
Here is a real big news. Fahadh Faasil, in a recent interview did officially confirm that his movie with Anwar Rasheed is on the cards. Reportedly, the upcoming film will go on floors in the month of June and the film will have its cinematography department handled by Amal Neerad.

On the other hand, the teaser of Puthan Panam, did hit the online circuits on April 1, 2017. The teaser, which has a brief introduction on Mammootty's Nithyanada Shenoy, has generated high hopes on the movie.
Trailers Of 1971 Beyond Borders And Sakhavu Are Out
The trailer of 1971 Beyond Borders was released during the audio launch ceremony of the film held in Kochi. The 1 minute 36 Seconds long trailer gives hints of the movie being an engaging war drama. The trailer has already crossed 3 Million views on Facebook.
The trailer of Nivin Pauly starrer Sakhavu got released on April 1, 2017. The trailer, which is much different from the first teaser of the movie, also shows Nivin Pauly's second get-up in the movie. Sakhavu will hit the theatres on April 15, 2017.
Apart from The Great Father, the Dileep starrer Georgettan's Pooram also made it to the theatres this week. The film hit the theatres on April 1, 2017. But, it was The Great Father that won the box office battle in the initial days.
Well, this week would witness the release of Mohanlal's much awaited movie 1971 Beyond Borders, directed by Major Ravi. The film will make it to the theatres on April 7, 2017.
With The Great Father having a solid run at the box office, both the Mammootty and Mohanlal starrers are expected to fight it out at the box office.
Meanwhile, Take Off, directed by Mahesh Narayanan is continuing its good run at the box office amidst the extremely positive reviews that the film has been receiving.
