By Akhila Menon

Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu is the 2006-released crime thriller which had Kamal Haasan in the lead role. The movie was written and directed Gautham Menon, was one of the biggest Tamil blockbusters of the year.

Jyothika and Kamalinee Mukherjee essayed the female leads in Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, which featured Kamal Haasan in the role of DCP Raghavan. The movie is produced by Manicam Narayanan for 7th Channel Communications.

Let us see who would fit into the characters of Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, if it is made in Malayalam now....

Mohanlal as DCP Raghavan

Mohanlal as DCP Raghavan

Mohanlal is the obvious choice for the role of DCP Raghavan, the intelligent police officer who goes in search of two serial killers. The complete actor can do total justice to the role, which has both serious and romantic angles.

PS: Gautham Menon had originally offered the role of Raghavan to Mohanlal. But the actor turned down the offer due to date issues.

Nayantara as Aaradhana

Nayantara as Aaradhana

The role of Aaradhana, the independent single mother who is going through a painful divorce from her abusive husband, and later falls in love with Raghavan, was well-portrayed by Jyothika in the original. If Vettaiyaadu Vilayaadu is being remade in Malayalam, Nayantara will be the perfect choice for the role.

Kamalinee Mukherjee as Raghavan's Late Wife

Kamalinee played the role of Kayalvizhi, the late wife of Raghavan in Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu. If the movie is being remade now, the actress herself can reprise the role, as her pairing with Mohanlal was well-appreciated in Pulimurugan.

Vinay Forrt as Amudhan Sukumaran

Vinay Forrt as Amudhan Sukumaran

Vinay Forrt, the super-talented actor will be a great choice for the role of Amudhan Sukumaran, one among the serial killers who challenges DCP Raghavan to find them. The actor can surely do justice to this character, which has been considered as one of the best antagonist roles of Tamil cinema till date.

Rajeev Pillai as Ilamaran Anandan

Rajeev Pillai as Ilamaran Anandan

The role of Ilamaran Anandan, second serial killer and the best buddy of Amudhan Sukumaran, was played by Salim Baig in the original. Rajeev Pillai will be a good choice for the role, if the movie is being remade in Malayalam.

Saikumar as Police Commissioner Arokiya Raj

Saikumar as Police Commissioner Arokiya Raj

The role of police commissioner Arokiya Raj, played by Prakash Raj, was a brief yet important one in the movie. Saikumar will make a great choice for the character, if Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu is remade in Malayalam now.

Interestingly, director Gautham Menon initially planned the movie as his Malayalam directorial debut. The film-maker approached Mohanlal to play the central character DCP Raghavan, and the actor initially agreed to do the project.

But, Mohanlal opted out of the project later, citing date issues. Gautham Menon later decided to do the project in Tamil and approached Kamal Haasan to play the role of ACP Raghavan. he later reworked on the script after Kamal said yes to the offer.

The project was initially titled as Thadayaara Thaaka, but the team later changed it into Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu. Gautham later roped in Jyothika, the leading lady of his blockbuster movie Khakka Khakka, to essay the female lead in the movie.

Kamalinee Mukherjee made a brief appearance as Raghavan's late wife in the movie, which had Daniel Balaji, Prakash Raj, Salim Beig, etc., in the pivotal roles. The movie has still been considered as one of the best works of Gautham Menon till date.
