It
is
a
fact
that
many
Malayalam
actors
have
that
inherent
wish
in
them
to
direct
a
film,
one
day
or
the
other.
Mammootty
is
no
different
and
it
is
not
known
to
many
that
the
popular
Malayalam
actor
had
once
wished
to
helm
a
popular
film.
It
was
in
a
recent
interview
given
to
RJ
Maathukutty
that
the
actor
opened
up
about
the
wish
he
had
to
direct
none
other
than
Kollywood's
superstar
Rajinikanth.
The
actor
stated
that
he
wished
to
direct
the
film
Bhoothakkannadi
with
actor
Rajinikanth
in
the
lead
role.
In
fact,
Mammootty
even
narrated
the
story
to
Rajinikanth
but
disappointingly
the
project
didn't
take
off.
Importantly,
Mammootty
and
Rajinikanth
had
previously
teamed
up
for
the
movie
Thalapathi,
directed
by
Mani
Ratnam.
Interestingly,
it
was
Mammooty
himself
who
starred
in
Bhoothakkannadi,
that
released
in
the
year
1997.
The
film
also
paved
way
for
the
directorial
debut
of
Lohithadas,
who
had
also
penned
the
script
for
the
movie.
Mammootty
played
the
role
of
a
character
named
Vidyadharan,
a
common
man,
who
lands
up
in
prison.
The
actor
received
wide
praises
for
his
performance
in
the
film.
