Pingami, the 1994-released revenge thriller is one of the most under-rated films in the career of Mohanlal. The movie, which was directed by Sathyan Anthikad, has still been considered as one of the finest works of the director.
Mohanlal's himself produced the movie, which was scripted by Reghunath Paleri, under the banner Pranavam Arts. Pingami, which also featured veteran actor Thilakan and Jagathy Sreekumar in the pivotal roles, was an average grosser at the box office.
Let's see who all can replace Mohanlal and others, if Pingami is hypothetically being remade now....
Prithviraj As Captain Vijay Menon
The role of Captain Vijay Menon, who returns to his native on his annual leave, was brilliantly played by Mohanlal in the original.
If the movie is being remade now, the role of the young soldier who seeks revenge for his father's death, will be totally safe in Prithviraj's hands.
Sreenivasan As Kumarettan
Veteran actor Thilakan essayed the role of social worker Kumarettan, who leads Vijay to the mystery around his father's death. It is hard to think of another actor in Thilakan's place. But from the current slot of actors, we think Sreenivasan can do justice to the role.
Soubin Shahir As Kutti Hassan
Well, there is absolutely no replacement for an acting talent like Jagathy Sreekumar, who played Kutti Hassan in Pingami.
But, if the movie is being remade now, actor-director Soubin Shahir, who is well-known for his natural humour, can be considered for the role.
Siddique As George Mathai
The role of George Mathai, the businessman, was played by late actor Sukumaran. If Pingami is being remade now, super versatile actor Siddique will be the best choice for the role.
Anu Sithara As Sridevi
Kanaka depicted the character Sridevi, the daughter of Kumarettan who later fall in love with Vijay, in the movie. From the present crop of actresses, Anu Sithara will be a good choice for the role.
Asha Sharath As Vijay's Mother
The character of Vijay's mother appears in two different phases in the movie, as a young mother and an old lady. Asha Sharath can be considered for the role, which was originally played by Shanthi Krishna, if the movie is being remade now.
Kanaka played the female lead opposite Mohanlal in Pingami, which featured Shanthi Krishna and Vinduja Menon in the key roles. Puneet Issar, Innocent, Oduvil Unnikrishnan, Devan, Sankaradi, Kuthiravattam Pappu, Janardhanan, Meena Kumari, Seetha, etc., essayed the supporting roles.
Vipin Mohan handled the cinematography of the movie. Late musician Johnson composed the songs and backgroud score. After Pingami's moderate success, Mohanlal and Sathyan Anthikad took a break of about 13 years, until they joined hands for the movie Rasathanthram.
