Malayalam film industry has witnessed the arrival of a good number of movies, which have imparted a patriotic feel into the minds of the audiences. This Mohanlal starrer marked the directorial debut of Major Ravi. In fact, Keerthichakra turned out to be one among the very few Malayalam movies that told the right story of the dedication, the struggles as well as the hard work of the army men. The character Major mahadevan would definitely feature among the best roles of Mohanlal so far. Rightly, Keerthichakra emerged as a big box office success and also made an impact in the award circuits.
It was in the year 2009 that Pazhassi Raja, starring Mammootty in the lead role had hit the theatres. Back in 2009, this film that narrated the tale of Kerala's warrier prince who is considered to be one of the first freedom fighters from this land, was the most expensive Malayalam movie ever made. The film, directed by Hariharan and written by MT Vasudevan Nair was high on patriotism and imparted the right emotions to the audiences.

Pazhassi Raja would rank at the top in the list of the brilliantly crafted Malayalam movies of all time. It narrated the efforts put in by our own warrior prince who fought for the independence of the country and his major contributions. The movie was rich in performances as well with Mammootty coming up with a spectacular performance as the lead character. The movie did set the cash registers ringing at the box office and also fetched big at the award circuits.
