Summer In Bethlehem, the film directed by Sibi Malayil and featuring Suresh Gopi, Jayaram and Manju Warrier in the lead roles, is one such evergreen movie, which has still a special place in the hearts of the Malayalam film audiences. The movie featured Suresh Gopi in the role of a character named Dennis. Jayaram appeared as Ravi, whereas Manju Warrier portrayed a character named Aami. The film was rich in performances and quality, and rightly, it emerged as a super success at the box office. Meanwhile, not many know that a Tamil actor was initially supposed to do Summer In Bethlehem. It was in a recent interview given to a Mathrubhumi.com that Sibi Malayil had opened up about some interesting details on the film.
In the interview, director Sibi Malayil opened up that they had initially planned to make Summer In Bethlehem in Tamil. Importantly, the team had planned to make the film with tamil actor Prabhu, Jayaram and Manju Warrier in the lead roles.
The director also opened up that the team had commenced the shooting and a song sequence featuring Prabhu and Manju Warrier was already canned in Chennai. But later, the film faced an issue from the producer and the team was unable to go forward with the movie.
The Change To Malayalam
Sibi Malayil added that it was then that he spoke to production manager Siyad Kokker, who then assured that the film will be a sure hit. Later, Siyad Kokker decided to produce the movie but on one condition that the film will be made in Malayalam. Hence, Suresh Gopi stepped into the shoes of the lead actor.
Regarding Mohanlal's Role
Well, the cameo appearance of Mohanlal as the character Niranjan was one of the high points of the movie. Mohanlal stole the show with his powerful performance. Reportedly, director Sibi Malayil wanted an extraordinary actor to perform the role. Initially, they had planned to cast Kamal Haasan but later, they approached Mohanlal. The director and writer Sibi Malayil met Mohanlal and the actor agreed to do this fabulous role and the rest as they say is history.
