The massive floods had affected the Malayalam film industry as well with all the Onam releases getting pushing ahead and thus losing one of the major festival seasons. Meanwhile, Malayalam movies and the industry have seemingly made it up for all that with the months of September and October turning out to be good ones as the industry has scores some real big hits already. In fact, Theevandi was the first major Malayalam movie to hit the theatres after the massive floods, which had hit the state of Kerala. The Tovino Thomas starrer that released on September 7, 2018 had opened to rave reviews in the theatres. What the industry next saw was the film setting the cash registers ringing at the box office. It won the hearts of both the youth and the family audiences and as a result emerged as a blockbuster.
Padayottam had hit the big screens by the mid of November and the film did live up to the promises that it had set. It was indeed a fine entertainer, laced with comedy elements. Biju Menon and team offered a laugh riot for the audiences and it had a good run in the theatres.
Well, Varathan came to the theatres in style and it emerged as one of the best openers of Fahadh Faasil so far. Varathan fetched unanimously positive reviews with everyone equivocal about the terrific second half of the movie, which was indeed a class apart. Audiences started pouring into the theatres and it went on to do a fabulous business in both single screens and multiplexes.
Kayamkulam Kochunni came in to the theatres as the biggest ever release that Kerala has seen so far. The movie lived up to the huge hype as it turned about all new experience for the Malayalam film audiences.
