Mohanlal, the complete actor is undoubtedly one of the finest talents Indian film industry has ever seen. When it comes to his onscreen performances, Mohanlal always stands out with his natural effortlessness and flexibility. The actor, who is all set to complete the 4th decade of his acting career, has amazed the audiences with his exceptional acting skills and brilliant career choices.
Interestingly, Mohanlal was not an actor who believes in going through extreme physical transformations for his roles. But recently, the actor went on to shed about 15 kilos for his role in the recent movie Odiyan. If things fall in place, Mohanlal will appear in a totally different look in his ambitious project Randamoozham, in which he essays the role of Bheeman.

1. Spadikam
Aadu Thoma from Spadikam is unarguably one of the most celebrated roles played by Mohanlal. The complete actor took a break from his usual ‘boy next door' roles with this ‘mass' character. Mohanlal sported a very unique look for the movie, with the messy hairdo, Ray-Ban aviators, bright shirts and white dhoti. The character Aadu Thoma is majorly responsible for the popularity of Ray-Ban aviators in Kerala.
2. Uncle Bun
Mohanlal's appearance in Uncle Bun was initially a shock for the audiences, who thought that the actor has really put on weight. Mohanlal played the role of an obese man in the movie, directed by Bhadran. Interestingly, the actor's look for the movie was created by National award-winning art director Sabu Cyril and the special effects team, headed by the renowned photographers A Vincent and Jayanan Vincent.
3. Padamudra
The movie which marked Mohanlal's first collaboration with director R Sukumaran, featured the actor in double roles. The actor sported a very unique look for the role of Maathu Pandaaram, with a different hairdo, thick moustache and a mole in his cheek. For Kuttappan, the second character he played in the movie, the actor opted to go with his signature looks.
4. Rajashilpi
Undoubtedly one of the most unique onscreen looks of Mohanlal is from Rajashilpi, which marked his second collaboration with R Sukumaran. The actor sported a rustic look in the movie, with long hair, thick beard, and unique costumes. Mohanlal's look in the movie came out as a huge surprise for the audiences, who were only familiar with his bubbly, charming onscreen persona. The actor's special dance sequence inspired by Shiva Thandav in the movie was widely appreciated.
5. Vanaprastham
Mohanlal astonished the audiences with his drastic makeover for Vanaprastham. The actor went for a clean-shaven look, for his role in the movie, Kathakali artist Kunjikkuttan Aashan. Mohanlal bagged his second National Film Award trophy for Best Actor, for his brilliant performance in the movie. The movie also won the Golden Lotus Award for the Best Feature Film at National Film Awards of 1999.
6. Iruvar
Even though it is a Tamil film, it would be unfair to skip Iruvar while discussing Mohanlal's most different onscreen looks. The actor played Anandan, a character based on former Tamil Nadu chief minister MGR, in the Mani Ratnam movie. Mohanlal appeared in a clean-shaven look in the movie and donned multiple get-ups to essay the various phases of his character's life. The actor also sported the classic MGR hairdo for his role in Iruvar.
7. Devadoothan
Mohanlal essayed a struggling musician who eventually builds a successful career in this Sibi Malayil movie. The actor sported a unique look with long hair & thick beard, teamed up with kurta-pajama sets and suits, at various portions of the movie. Even though Devadoothan failed to make it big at the box office, Mohanlal's performance in the movie and the ‘Entharo Mahanu' song sequence were heavily praised.
8. Udayon
The Bhadran movie, which featured Mohanlal in a double role as Suranadu Kunju and son Papoyi. For the part of the 75-year old man, Mohanlal sported a grey hair-moustache look, teamed up with a head band, short kurtas and dhoti. For the part of Papoyi, the complete actor appeared in his signature twisted moustache look.
9. Paradesi
Mohanlal stunned the audiences with his performance as Valiyakathu Moosa, an Indian who moves to Karachi in search of a job. Paradesi, directed by PT Kunju Muhammed, featured Mohanlal in 2 different looks. For the younger portions of the role, the actor sported short hair with a moustache. And for the portions of the 80-year old man, Mohanlal appeared with a bald head with a grey moustache, beard, and eyebrows.
10. Odiyan
Mohanlal went on to have a drastic makeover for Odiyan, which is directed by ad film-maker VA Shrikumar Menon. The actor shed about 15-kilos and sported a clean-shaven look for the younger portions of the character, and went for a thick beard-deadlocks look for the rest. While the Mohanlal was heavily praised by his fans for the looks, a large group of audiences was not happy with the clean shaven get-up.
