The
all
India
lockdown
has
totally
affected
all
aspects
of
the
society,
including
the
film
industry.
The
Malayalam
film
industry
is
also
going
through
a
tough
time,
as
all
the
releases
and
film
shootings
have
been
cancelled
due
to
the
coronavirus
threat.
All
the
much-awaited
Vishu
releases
of
the
year
were
cancelled
due
to
the
same.
The
two
months
of
theater
shutdown
without
any
movie
releases
have
caused
a
huge
loss
for
the
Malayalam
film
industry.
If
the
latest
reports
are
to
be
believed,
the
Kerala
film
producers
are
reportedly
planning
to
find
a
solution
to
this
situation,
by
releasing
some
of
the
much-awaited
Malayalam
films
on
OTT
platforms.
The
rumour
mills
suggest
that
the
Kerala
producers
are
considering
this
option,
as
the
issues
between
the
producers
association
and
theater
owners
association
are
not
solved
yet.
If
the
rumours
are
to
be
true,
the
most
awaited
films
of
the
year
including
Mohanlal's
Marakkar
Arabikadalinte
Simham,
Mammootty's
One,
Fahadh
Faasil's
Malik,
and
so
on
might
get
an
OTT
release.
However,
there
is
no
official
confirmation
on
any
of
these
reports
yet.
Recently,
it
was
reported
that
a
few
upcoming
Tamil
films,
including
the
Jyothika
starrer
Ponmagal
Vandhal
and
Suriya's
Soorarai
Pottru
might
get
OTT
releases
due
to
the
current
situation.
However,
the
Tamil
Nadu
theater
association
has
not
welcomed
this
decision
made
by
the
production
banner
of
the
movie.
If
the
theaters
remain
close
for
more
than
three
months,
the
Malayalam
films
might
have
to
choose
the
same
route,
as
the
industry
has
already
landed
in
a
huge
financial
mess.
The
latest
reports
suggest
that
Malayalam
cinema
is
already
facing
a
loss
of
over
300
Crores,
with
the
two
months
of
theater
shutdown.
