Randamoozham, which is one of the most loved literary works of MT Vasudevan Nair, was initially supposed to get a movie adaptation in 2017. VA Shrikumar, the renowned filmmaker had announced that he is directing the movie adaptation of the novel with Mohanlal playing the central character Bheema, in April 2017. Later, popular industrialist BR Shetty came on board to bankroll the project, which was supposed to be made with a whopping budget of Rs. 1000 Crores.

According to VA Shrikumar, Randamoozham was about to be made as two parts, and the first part was expected to hit the theaters in 2020. However, writer MT Vasudevan Nair later filed a lawsuit against the filmmaker demanding the script back, as he failed to kickstart the project in the promised time.

The court verdict was in favour of MT, but Shrikumar was still confident about the future of the project. However, producer BR Shetty too backed out from the project later. If the reports are to be believed, leading man Mohanlal was also reluctant to proceed with the project, after this first collaboration with VA Shrikumar, Odiyan, received severe backlash from the audiences.
