Vaariyamkunnan: Scriptwriter Ramees Withdraws From The Prithviraj Sukumaran-Aashiq Abu Project!
Vaariyamkunnan, the upcoming Prithviraj Sukumaran-Aashiq Abu project has been receiving severe backlash from the netizens, due to its sensitive topic. A group of netizens has been attacking lead actor Prithviraj and director Aashiq Abu for choosing to make a film on Vaariyamkunnathu Kunjahammad Haji, the leader of 1921 Malabar Rebellion.
The project had also made headlines, after Ramees, one of the scriptwriters of the project was called out by the netizens for his fiercely political and extremely misogynistic social media posts from the past five to six years. Even though the scriptwriter deleted his posts and made a public apology on his official social media page, the netizens are in no mood to spare him. This has now led to Ramees' withdrawal from the project.
Aashiq Abu, the director of the Prithviraj starrer shared the news with his followers through a social media post recently. In his post, the filmmaker has clearly mentioned that he is against Ramees' political ideologies, and vice versa. Aashiq Abu has also revealed how he met the scriptwriter and decided to join hands for the project, in his post. Ramees, on the other hand, has made it clear that he is withdrawing from the project for the time being.
According to the scriptwriter, he had realised his mistakes and apologised for the same recently. However, he claims that some allegations against them are either misinterpretations or false campaigns. Thus, Ramees has decided to stay away from the Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer, until he proves his innocence. He is hopeful that the project will not happen without him. Ramees has also made it clear that lead actor Prithviraj or director Aashiq Abu have never asked him to leave the project.
The makers are now hoping that the controversy will soon die down, as Ramees himself has left the project. Prithviraj Sukumaran, the lead actor, has been maintaining a dignified silence over the issue, even though he was mercilessly attacked by social media.
