The movie is a Malayalam survival thriller by Jude Anthnay Joseph, who wrote the screenplay with Akhil P Dharmajan. The film was based on actual events during the 2018 Kerala floods. The film was earlier set for a theatrical release on April 21 but was then postponed. Although a delay in release, the movie was released to a thumping response at the box office. The movie is continuing to mint money.

2018 To Surpass Lucifer
The movie made more than Rs 125 Crore within 15 days of its release, becoming the highest-grossing Malayalam film of the year and dethroning Lucifer, the second-highest Malayalam film of all time, to date. Now if 2018 could surpass the collection of Pulimurugan, which is again Mohanlal's film, Jude Anthony's film will become the all-time highest-grosser.
