Renowned Malayalam Film Producer & National Awardee Achani Ravi Passes Away At 90; Condolences Pour In

Noted producer and businessman Achani Ravi AKA K Ravindranath Nair passed away on July 8. The veteran, who was a multiple National Award-winner died at 90 in Kollam, Kerala.

Achani Ravi started his career as a producer in the Malayalam Film Industry (Mollywood) in the year 1967. He established a banner by the name General Pictures, and made several note-worthy films.

K Ravindranathan Nair came to be known as Achani Ravi or General Pictures Ravi. Under his production banner, Ravi made several critically acclaimed films including Kanchana Sita, Thampu, Kummatty, Esthappan, Pokkuveyil, Elippathayam, Manju, Mukhamukham, Anantaram, Vidheyan, etc.

The entire Malayalam film industry is saddened to hear the death news of the veteran. They are taking to their social media handles to express their condolences and are paying tributes to the legendary.

Nair was phenomenal in fostering Art Films in the industry and won about 18 awards for the 14 films he produced.

Achani Ravi's Biography

Nair Aka Ravi was born into a rich family that exports Cashew nuts. He was passionate about literature, and arts and ended up venturing into the industry. He first produced Anweshichu Kandethiyilla, which was made by P Bhaskaran. He then collaborated with Bhaskaran for his next two films Kattukurangu and Lakshaprabhu.

He was referred to as Achani Ravi followed by his film titled Achani, which was directed by A Vincent in 1973. He was also a philanthropist and built a public library in Kollam, to which he also acted as a founding member and honorary secretary.

Achani Ravi's Personal Life

Achani was married to Usha, a Playback Singer. The couple has three children- Prathap, Preetha, and Prakash. Usha died in 2013.

He was a recipient of the JC Daniel Award, National Award, and Kerala State Film Award.

The funeral of Achani Ravi will take place at his own estate in Kollam, Kerala. His children, relatives, well-wishers, and a few of his friends are looking into the arrangements.
