Kundara Johny Death: The Malayalam film industry suffered a huge loss on Tuesday as well-known and prolific actor Kundara Johny passed away from a heart attack at a private hospital in Kollam.

As per a report by news agency PTI, Kundara was rushed to a nearby private hospital after he suffered a heart attack on Tuesday evening, the FEFKA Directors' Union said in a Facebook post.

Kundara Johny, known for playing negative roles in Malayalam films, died at the age of 71 after suffering a cardiac attack. He was taken to a hospital after complaining of chest pain, but even after all medical efforts, his life couldn't be saved.

Kerala Finance Minister K N Balagopal condoled his demise and said that Kundara Johny acted in over 500 films during his illustrious career.

Who was Kundara Johny?

Known by his stage name, Kundara Johny was born in 1951 in Quilon, Travancore, as Johny Joseph. He hailed from Kundara in Kollam district and was born to parents Joseph and Catherine.

The veteran actor completed his education at Kollam's Fatima Matha College and Sri Narayana College, where he was also a captain of the Kollam district football team during his college years.

Kundara Johny career

With an illustrious career spanning over four decades, Kundara rose to fame by playing the roles of villain and henchman in several Malayalam movies. He debuted at the age of 23 in 1979's Nithya Vasantham, in which he played the character of a 55-year-old man.

He has acted in more than 100 films in Malayalam cinema, like Agniparvatham, Karimpana, Angachamayam, Godfather Rajneegandhi, and Aaraam Thampuran, to name a few.

His talent was not limited to the Malayalam film industry. Johny has also worked in Tamil films like Vaazhkai Chakram and Nadigan. He has also acted in the Telugu (Rowdyism Nasinchal) and Kannada (Modadha Mareyalli) industries as well.

He was last seen in the Unni Mukundan 2022 film 'Meppadiyan'. Johny has also shown his acting prowess on television.

Johny's peronal life

Johny is survived by his wife Stella, who is a Hindi professor at Fatima Mata National College, Kollam.

The actor's mortal remains will be kept for public viewing at Kadappakada Sports Club on Wednesday from 10 am till 12 pm and a funeral will be held on Thursday at St Antony's Church cemetery.
