The movie was released amid huge allegations and controversies due to its content. The plot follows the story of a group of women in Kerala, who converted to Islam and subsequently joined ISIS. The movie was the subject of severe criticism by the political parties of Kerala and the religious organization bodies.

The Kerala Story Cast

Adah Sharma played the role of Shalini Unnikrishnan and Fatima, Yogita Bihani as Nimah, Sonia Balani as Asifa, Siddhi Idnani as Geetanjali, Devadarshini as Shalini's mother, Vijay Krishna, Pranay Pachauri, and Pranav Misshra are part of the film in important characters.

The Kerala Story Crew

The movie is written by Suryapal Singh, along with the director Sudipto Sen and producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah. The cinematography and editing of the film were handled by Prasantanu Mohapatra and Sanjay Sharma, respectively. Viresh Sreevalsa and Bishakh Jyoti composed the film's entire background score and music for The Kerala Story.

The Kerala Story Controversy

The Indian National Congress and the Communist Party of India have objected to the release of the movie for propagating communal misinformation. They also alleged a religious organization by the name Sangh Parivar is propagating the idea of Love Jihad, a Hindutva conspiracy theory, and defaming Kerala.

The makers claimed that the movie is based on a real-life incident and showcased Adah Sharma's character Fathima Ba at first as a Hindu Malayali nurse who had converted to Islam and joined ISIS, before being captured and put in jail in Afghanistan. She is identified as one of the missing girls from Kerala, who joined ISIS after being converted.
