The Kerala Story Didn't Get Enough Reception: The Tamil Nadu government has told the Supreme Court that the movie 'The Kerala Story' was not well received in Tamil Nadu and the theater owners themselves have stopped the film.

Directed by Sudipto Sen, The Kerala Story released nationwide on the May 5, 2023. Although the Tamil Nadu government has not banned the release of The Kerala Story, the film was not released in many theatres. Against this, the makers of The Kerala Story filed a case in the Supreme Court.

Supreme Court Questioned Tamil Nadu Government

During the hearing of the case, the Supreme Court judge had ordered the state government to give an explanation about the security provided to theaters where The Kerala Story is being screened in Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu Government Did Not Ban The Kerala Story

The Tamil Nadu government gave its reply in the Supreme Court today (May 16, 2023). They said "Tamil Nadu government provided police security to 19 theaters where Kerala Story was screened. As the film was not well received, the theater owners said that they will screen another film. The government did not ban the film."

In Tamil Nadu, STPI, Naam Tamilar Katchiyar etc. staged a blockade in various theaters of Tamil Nadu wherever the movie 'The Kerala Story' was released. As a result, the film was screened in a few theaters in Tamil Nadu, and then it was stopped within a couple of days.

Annamalai Questioned Red Giant Movies

Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai said, "If Kerala Story is wrong, why did Red Giant buy its Tamil Nadu distribution rights?" The question raised has caused great controversy. Many people are commenting on social media that it is a mystery why Tamil Nadu Minister Udayanidhi Stalin's production company bought such a controversial film and then why the government banned it. But Udhayanidhi Stalin supporters said that he is not part of Red Giant Movies and he already announced it in press conference.

In such a situation, this reply from Tamil Nadu Governement to the Supreme Court has created new controversy.
