Veteran
actor
and
politician
Innocent
(75)
passed
away
due
to
a
prolonged
illness
on
March
26.
The
septuagenarian
was
undergoing
treatment
at
a
private
hospital
in
Kochi
for
the
last
two
weeks.
In
the
last
couple
of
days,
his
health
deteriorated,
and
was
put
on
a
ventilator.
Innocent
was
born
on
February
28
in
the
year
1948.
He
was
fifth
of
the
eight
children
born
to
his
parents.
He
is
a
cancer
survivor
and
was
admitted
into
the
hospital
in
the
second
week
of
March
following
a
health
issue.
The
entire
Mollywood
and
political
parties
condoled
the
death
of
Innocent,
who
was
more
than
just
an
actor.
His
work
towards
cancer
awareness
as
a
politician,
and
an
author
received
great
acclaim.
Innocent's
Political
Career
Innocent
served
as
the
Member
of
Parliament
(MP)
in
the
16th
Lok
Sabha
representing
the
Chalakudy
constituency.
He
was
the
District
secretary
of
Thrissur,
on
behalf
of
the
Revolutionary
Socialist
Party
during
the
1970s.
He
contested
in
the
Irinjalakkuda
municipal
council
elections
and
won.
Innocent
also
won
the
2014
Lok
Sabha
elections
and
lost
in
the
2019's
elections.
Innocent's
Film
Career
&
Accolades
He
first
began
his
journey
in
the
film
industry
after
taking
part
in
the
Kerala
Samajam
drama.
After
making
his
debut
in
the
Malayalam
industry
with
unique
diction
and
mannerisms,
Innocent
starred
in
over
750
films.
He
played
comedian
roles
predominantly
and
also
impressed
the
viewers
with
antagonist
roles.
He
acted
in
English,
Kannada,
Tamil,
and
Hindi
films
as
well.
Innocent
won
three
Kerala
State
Film
Awards.
He
was
also
a
recipient
of
the
Kerala
Sahitya
Akademi
Award
for
Humor
in
2020.
He
was
a
staple
actor
in
films
directed
by
Priyadarshan,
Satyan
Anthikkada,
Fazil,
and
Kamal.
He
served
as
the
president
of
the
Association
of
Malayalam
Movie
Artistes
(AMMA)
for
a
remarkable
12
years.
Innocent
also
authored
five
books
which
also
include
his
experiences
of
fighting
Cancer
and
his
autobiography.
Innocent
was
survived
by
his
wife
Alice
and
a
son
named
Sonnet.
