Actress Sridevika Speaks Out Against Harassment By Director Thulasidas, Highlights Failures Of AMMA

Sridevika Speaks Out Against Harassment By Thulasidas

Sridevika Speaks Out Against Harassment By Thulasidas: The Malayalam film industry is facing a wave of revelations as more actresses come forward with their experiences of harassment. In a recent disclosure, actress Sridevika revealed a troubling incident that occurred during the filming of the 2006 movie Avan Chandiyude Makan. According to Sridevika, she faced persistent harassment from the film's director, Thulasidas. She recounted that the director repeatedly knocked on her hotel room door late at night, an unnerving behavior that continued for three or four days. Concerned, Sridevika reported the situation to the hotel reception, who confirmed that the person knocking on her door was indeed the director.

Sridevika shared that her mother, who was present with her at the time, informed a fellow actor about the harassment. As a result, they were compelled to move to a different room to avoid further encounters with the director. However, the harassment didn't end there. Sridevika alleged that the director continued to behave inappropriately on set, going so far as to cut down her shots and dialogues as a form of retaliation. Despite bringing these issues to the attention of AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) by filing a formal complaint, no action was taken. The lack of response from AMMA has left Sridevika feeling betrayed by the organization, prompting her to publicly speak out against its leadership for failing to deliver justice.

Meanwhile, AMMA is reportedly facing growing internal discord. Several actors have criticized the current leadership, leading to a division within the organization. One faction is advocating for a woman to be appointed as the new General Secretary, while another group is supporting veteran actor Jagadish for the position. The ongoing tensions within AMMA highlight the broader issues of accountability and representation in the industry.

Minu Kurian Accuses Mukesh and Jayasurya of Abuse

In another case that underscores the troubling culture within the film industry, actress Minu Kurian has made serious allegations against actors Mukesh and Jayasurya. Minu has accused both actors of subjecting her to physical abuse. She claimed that Jayasurya made inappropriate comments toward her and retaliated by denying her opportunities when she resisted his advances. Minu further detailed an incident on the set of De Ingottu Nokkiye, where Jayasurya allegedly grabbed her from behind, escalating his behavior to physical abuse.

Additionally, Minu accused Mukesh of assaulting her during the filming of Calendar and of interfering with her membership application to AMMA as a form of retaliation. She also claimed that actors Maniyanpilla Raju and Edavela Babu engaged in inappropriate sexual conversations with her. Minu has expressed her determination to file a formal complaint with the government-appointed investigation team. She had previously disclosed her experiences to actress Gayathri Varsha, who has now publicly supported her.

These revelations have sparked a renewed call for accountability and justice within the film industry, as more actresses speak out against the harassment they have faced and the inadequate responses from industry bodies like AMMA.
