AMMA President Mohanlal Resigns, Executive Committee Dissolved Amid Sexual Assault Allegations

Mohanlal Resigns: According to the reports, actor and producer Mohanlal has resigned as the president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) on Tuesday. Mass resignation move took place in AMMA and all 17 executive committee members together have reportedly resigned. This took place after Jagadish was in consideration for the general secretary post after actor Siddique stepped down after facing sexual abuse allegations.

In the wake of Malayalam cinema controversy, Mohanlal's resignation as Amma president came after he was accused of allegedly "losing his ability to respond" on Hema Committee report. After several sexual assault allegations emerged, BT reports Malayalam actor Shammy Thilakan claimed that "Mohanlal had lost his ability to respond" ever since the allegations surfaced. According to the reports, Mohanlal's resignation as the president o AMMA came after the dissent withing the organization grew regarding the stand of the organization in Hema Committee Report and growing allegation. Besides Mohalal, general secretary of AMMA Siddique, and the executive team members including- Jagadish, Baburaj, Jayan Cherthala, Unni Mukundan, Suraj Venjarammoodu, Joy Mathew, Kalabhavan Shajon, Suresh Krishna, Tini Tom, Ananya, Vinu Mohan, Sarayu Mohan, Tovino Thomas, Ansiba Hassan and Jomol have also resigned. After the resignation of the 17 members, the committee has been disbanded.

To note, a young actress accused actor and producer Siddique of allegedly raping her in 2016. She claimed of meeting Siddique online who later affirmed her of giving a role in his upcoming film. He then allegedly asked the woman to make some "adjustments" for him. Reports claim that Siddique allegedly raped the woman in the hotel and "masturabated" in front of her.
