Jomol Responds To Hema Committee Report: Actress Jomol has responded to the recent Hema Committee report, which was commissioned to address issues of harassment and misconduct within the Malayalam film industry.
In her statement during a press conference by the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), Jomol clarified that she has not faced any inappropriate behavior or unpleasant experiences from anyone in the industry. She emphasized that no one has approached her with ill intentions or pressured her to cooperate under duress. Jomol also stated that she is unaware of the identities of the prominent figures mentioned in the report and has not had any adverse personal encounters.
Jomol addressed recent remarks by other actresses who claimed to have lost career opportunities due to their outspoken stance. She noted that, while she has received awards in the past for her acting, she is currently not active in the industry.
Siddique Defends AMMA, Denies Presence of Power Groups or Mafia in the Industry
In response to the ongoing controversy, Siddique, a prominent figure in the Malayalam film industry and the general secretary of AMMA, addressed the claims and concerns surrounding the Hema Committee report. Siddique refuted allegations that AMMA has been evasive, asserting that the organization remains supportive of the Hema Committee's efforts. He stressed that AMMA stands with the committee and supports its recommendations.
Siddique called for the police to thoroughly investigate and take action against those who have committed offenses, emphasizing that the film industry should not be blamed for isolated incidents.
He also expressed his belief that there are no power groups or mafias within the film industry, stating that such groups have never been encountered in his experience. Siddique noted that a high-power committee was formed two years ago with members from two organizations to address industry issues, and other than that, there are no power groups as mentioned in the report.
Siddique mentioned that a complaint about an incident from 2006 had been received and admitted that it should not have been overlooked. AMMA will consider further actions regarding this complaint, which remains the only formal complaint received by the organization.
Additionally, Siddique revealed that actors Mammootty and Mohanlal appeared before the Hema Committee several times, primarily to discuss matters related to their remuneration. He also stated that many AMMA members have not been contacted by the Hema Committee for inquiries.
Siddique mentioned that Minister Saji Cherian had called for discussions on the report's recommendations two years ago and that he and Edavela Babu participated in those discussions, sharing their suggestions with the minister. He also noted that the government did not disclose the contents of the report during the meeting.
