Directed by the legendary Mohanlal, this upcoming Malayalam fantasy film marks his directorial debut, adding another feather to his illustrious career. To celebrate its release, a special screening of Barroz will be held today at 6:30 PM at Sathyam Cinemas in Chennai, with Mohanlal himself in attendance. Barroz: From Concept to Screen - The Journey Behind Mohanlal's Directorial Debut

The journey of Barroz began in April 2019, when it was first announced. The film is based on the novel Barroz: Guardian of D'Gama's Treasure by Jijo Punnoose, who initially penned the script. However, due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the film reportedly underwent significant changes in its storyline, screenplay, and cast. As a result, Punnoose parted ways with the project, and Mohanlal teamed up with T. K. Rajeev Kumar to rewrite the film's narrative and bring fresh perspectives to the script. Filming resumed in December 2021 after the disruptions, and principal photography wrapped up in July 2022. The film was shot primarily in Kochi and Goa, with additional sequences filmed in Bangkok and Chennai.

The film's plot follows Barroz, a centuries-old treasure guardian entrusted with the task of protecting Vasco da Gama's hidden treasure. For over 400 years, he has guarded the wealth, awaiting the true descendant of da Gama to come forward to claim it. The story promises to be an exciting blend of fantasy, adventure, and mystery.

Starring Mohanlal in the titular role of Barroz, the film also features Maya Rao West as Isabella da Gama, Cesar Lorente Raton as Mendoza, Ignacio Mateos as Cristóvão da Gama, and Kallirroi Tziafeta as Theresa da Gama. Other key cast members include Nerea Camacho, Tuhin Menon, Guru Somasundaram, and Komal Sharma.
