Malayalam Actor Edavela Babu Arrested After Interrogation In Sexual Harassment Case

Actor Edavela Babu Arrested In Sexual Harassment Case

Edavela Babu Arrested In Sexual Harassment Case: Actor Edavela Babu was arrested today in connection with a complaint accusing him of allegedly sexually assaulting an actress. Babu appeared before the Special Investigation Team at the Coastal Police Headquarters in Kochi for questioning. After more than three hours of interrogation, the actor was formally arrested. However, due to a prior court ruling granting him anticipatory bail, he will be released following a medical check-up.

The Special Investigation Team initiated the questioning as part of their ongoing investigation. Babu had previously secured anticipatory bail in the case, allowing for his immediate release after his arrest.

Interestingly, this is the same location where actor and politician Mukesh was earlier questioned in a similar case. After three hours of questioning, his arrest was also recorded, following which he was released.

Meanwhile, the police have issued a lookout notice for actor Siddique, who has gone into hiding following the high court's rejection of his anticipatory bail in a rape case. He has been missing since yesterday evening, and authorities have been unsuccessful in locating him for arrest.

Industry Faces Reckoning As Prominent Figures Are Accused

The Malayalam film industry is currently facing serious allegations of sexual assault and harassment involving several prominent figures, including Siddique, Mukesh, Jayasurya, Maniyanpilla Raju, and director Ranjith. Multiple actors have come forward with claims of sexual abuse, highlighting the troubling issues within the industry.

These allegations surfaced following the public release of the Justice Hema Committee report, which highlights the exploitation and harassment experienced by women in the industry. The 235-page report reveals that a power group largely controls the Malayalam film sector. However, key names and significant findings were excluded to safeguard the privacy of those involved, including the accused. Established by the state government in 2017, the Justice Hema Committee submitted its report in 2019, but it remained unpublished until recently and was finally released due to court intervention.

In light of the controversy, the Executive Committee of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has been disbanded. Led by Mohanlal, the committee announced that it is assuming moral responsibility for the situation. A Special Investigation Team is now investigating these serious allegations.
