The veteran actress, known for her memorable roles as the quintessential screen mother, had been hospitalized in a private hospital in Kochi for several weeks due to age-related health complications that led to a gradual decline in her condition.

Kaviyoor Ponnamma, a revered icon of Malayalam cinema, has made a lasting impact on the Malayalam film industry with a remarkable career that spanned over six decades. Since her debut in the late 1950s, she has graced more than 700 films, earning her place as the quintessential mother figure in Malayalam cinema. While she began her acting career in stage drama, her exceptional talent soon transitioned to film, where she became the preferred actress for mother and grandmother roles.

Throughout her distinguished career, Kaviyoor Ponnamma portrayed the mother to some of Malayalam cinema's most legendary actors, including Sathyan, Prem Nazir, Mammootty, Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi, Jayaram, and Dileep.
