Omar Lulu Rape Case: Malayalam Director Gets Interim Anticipatory Bail; 'Consensual Relationship With Actress'

Omar Lulu Rape Actress Case Latest Updates: Malayalam filmmaker Omar Abdul Vahab aka Omar Lulu has been in the news lately for an alleged rape case. A case was recently registered against the director - who rose to fame by directing the 2019 film 'Oru Adaar Love', from which the 'wink' video featuring Priya Prakash Varrier went viral on the internet - for allegedly raping an young actress.

Malayalam Director Omar Lulu Booked In Alleged Rape Case

The Nedumbassery police filed a case against Malayalam director Omar Lulu for allegedly raping an young actress multiple times between January and April this year, according to reports. In the complaint, the actress alleged that Omar Lulu had also promised to marry her and also assured to cast her in his movies.

"The victim first filed a complaint with Kochi city police commissioner. Based on the complaint, Palarivattom police conducted a probe. However, considering that the rape incident took place near Nedumbassery, the case was recently transferred to us. We have registered a case for rape under IPC Section 376. The statement of the victim has been recorded. Now film director, Omar Lulu, who is the sole accused in the case will be summoned for questioning," a police officer had told the media.

However, the director dismissed the allegations claiming it as a part of a personal grudge. He further added that their relationship ended six months back. As reported by Manorama Online, he'd responded to the allegations, saying -

"I was friends with this girl for a long time. She was a person who accompanied me on many journeys. However, a rift happened in the friendship and we have not been in contact for the past six months."

"Now, just when I commenced my new movie, she has come forward with such a complaint. The reason behind it could be anger at not being given a chance in the film. Or maybe, it is part of a blackmail attempt to extort money," he further alleged.

Omar Lulu Rape Case: Kerala HC Grants Interim Anticipatory Bail

According to latest reports, the Kerala High Court has granted an interim anticipatory bail to Omar Lulu in the rape case. The court further stated that if Omar Lulu gets arrested, he should be released on a surety bond of Rs 50,000!

The plea has been adjourned to June 6, 2024, for a detailed hearing on the anticipatory bail application.
