Progressive Film Makers: New Association To Launch In Malayalam Cinema Led By Aashiq Abu, Rima & LJP

New Organization Set To Transform Malayalam Film Industry: A significant shift is on the horizon for the Malayalam film industry with the emergence of a new organization, which promises to bring a fresh perspective to the sector. The new group, which is yet to officially launch, has been spearheaded by some of the industry's most prominent figures, including directors Lijo Jose Pellissery, Aashiq Abu, Anjali Menon, and Rajeev Ravi, actress Rima Kallingal, and film producer Bineesh Chandra. Their collective efforts have resulted in the formation of the "Progressive Film Makers Association."
In a recent joint statement, the founders outlined their vision for the organization. The Progressive Film Makers Association is set to advocate for a more equitable and collaborative film industry, with a strong focus on social justice. The new group aims to address what they perceive as significant gaps in the current system and to introduce reforms that will modernize the Malayalam film industry.
One of the key objectives of the association is to empower workers across the industry, from behind-the-scenes crew to lesser-known contributors. The organization plans to champion values of equality and transparency, emphasizing the need for updated systems and legal frameworks that better reflect contemporary industry standards. The founders believe that the Malayalam film industry is lagging compared to other sectors and stress the importance of adopting new practices and accountability measures.
Aashiq Abu's FEFKA Exit Spurs Formation Of New Film Association
Director Aashiq Abu, who has played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Progressive Film Makers Association, is particularly notable. Aashiq Abu's involvement comes after his resignation from the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA), where he was a member. His departure from FEFKA followed harsh criticism of the federation's leadership, particularly in relation to its stance on the Hema Committee report and serious allegations against FEFKA president Siby Malayil. The resignation and subsequent formation of the new organization have been seen as a response to these controversies, aiming to address the issues raised and provide a constructive alternative.
The formation of the Progressive Film Makers Association represents a substantial development in the Malayalam film industry. By bringing together leading directors and influential industry figures, the organization seeks to foster a more inclusive and progressive environment. The upcoming launch of this new initiative is expected to be a turning point, with hopes high for meaningful changes that will benefit all facets of the film industry.
