Soubin Shahir Under Investigation For Alleged ₹40 Crore Tax Evasion Linked To 'Manjummel Boys' Revenue

Soubin Shahir Under Probe For 40 Crore Tax Evasion

Soubin Shahir Under Investigation For Tax Evasion: Actor Soubin Shahir's production company, Parava Films, is under scrutiny for alleged tax evasion amounting to ₹40 crore. According to a report by Mathrubhumi online, this comes after a preliminary investigation by the Income Tax Department, which links the evasion to the revenue generated from the blockbuster film Manjummel Boys. The movie, which achieved major success both within Kerala and across India, reportedly earned ₹140 crore. However, discrepancies in the income and expense filings have raised alarms among the authorities.

As per the report, the Income Tax Department's ongoing investigation has revealed that Manjummel Boys holds the record for the highest-earning movie in Kerala. Of the total ₹140 crore generated, a significant ₹40 crore is suspected to have been concealed by the producers. In addition to this, the department discovered irregularities in the tax returns filed by the company, raising concerns about compliance.

The department is now planning to reach out directly to Soubin Shahir for clarification. The raid at Parava Films is reportedly still underway, with officials conducting inspections at multiple locations.

Enforcement Directorate's Probe Into Money Laundering

In an earlier development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had launched an investigation into possible money laundering activities within the film industry. The ED's probe, focused on several film production houses, was followed by a formal complaint filed by Siraj Valiyathara Hameed from Alappuzha against Soubin and the producers of Manjummel Boys.

Siraj's complaint alleged that the filmmakers had failed to deliver on profit-sharing agreements and had engaged in fraudulent financial practices. The police, upon investigating the matter, discovered serious financial irregularities, which led to the submission of their report to the High Court. The latest actions taken by the Income Tax Department appear to be a direct result of the police's findings.
