Alappuzha Gymkhana OTT Release: The Malayalam sports drama Alappuzha Gymkhana, which hit theaters on April 10, 2025, is reportedly gearing up for its digital premiere. According to reports, the film will begin streaming on SonyLIV from June 5 and will be available in five languages-Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. However, an official announcement regarding the OTT platform and release date is still awaited.

Directed and co-written by Khalid Rahman, known for films such as Anuraga Karikkin Vellam and Thallumaala, Alappuzha Gymkhana features a cast led by Naslen, Lukman Avaran, Ganapathi S. Poduval, Sandeep Pradeep, and Anagha Ravi. The screenplay was co-developed with Sreeni Saseendran, while the dialogues were penned by Ratheesh Ravi.

A Coming-of-Age Tale Rooted in Sports

Set in the coastal town of Alappuzha, the film follows a group of five friends-Jojo, DJ, Valthu, Cherthu, and Shanavas-whose lives take a new direction after failing their 12th-grade exams, with the exception of Shanavas. As traditional college options appear to slip away, the friends explore an unconventional path: pursuing college admissions through sports quota, specifically in boxing.

Their journey begins at the local Alappuzha Gymkhana boxing club under the guidance of Coach Salim. What starts as an experiment soon grows into a serious effort for some, while others shift focus or drop out. DJ, for instance, switches to wrestling, and Shanavas eventually opts out of the group's new pursuit. Meanwhile, Jojo, Valthu, and Cherthu stay committed and eventually qualify for the state-level boxing championship alongside three others from the district.

The narrative unfolds around their training, shifting dynamics, and the realities of competitive sports. Though it centers on boxing, the film steers clear of genre clichés and instead captures the grit, uncertainty, and consequences of young people trying to navigate their way into adulthood.

The film also stars Franco Francis, Baby Jean, and Shiva Hariharan, and features a supporting cast that includes Karthik, Shon Joy, Nanda Nishanth, and Noila Francy. Vishnu Vijay composed the music, Jimshi Khalid handled the cinematography, and the editing was done by Nishadh Yusuf and Bles Thomas.

Produced by Khalid Rahman, Jobin George, Sameer Karat, and Subeesh Kannanchery, Alappuzha Gymkhana was distributed by Central Pictures. With its upcoming digital release, the film will now be accessible to a wider audience across India.
