AMMA Elections 2025: Will Shwetha Menon Make History Or Will Devan Take The Lead As The New President?

AMMA Elections Shwetha Or Devan Who Will Be President

AMMA Elections 2025: As the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) prepares for its 2025 governing body elections on August 15, the focus has shifted to who will assume the organization's top leadership position. With a record number of nominations and several notable withdrawals, the presidential race now appears to be narrowing, particularly in favor of actress Shwetha Menon.

According to Asianet News, only two candidates remain in the race for the president's post: Shwetha Menon and Devan. This follows the withdrawal of actor Jagadish, who reportedly stepped aside after consulting with actors Mohanlal and Mammootty. As per the report, Jagadish expressed his support for a woman president, a stance that has further strengthened Shwetha Menon's prospects.

Another initial contender, Raveendran, also exited the presidential race and is now contesting only for the general secretary post. His decision to step back has added to the perception that Shwetha Menon is a frontrunner. Four individuals have pulled out of the race for the president's post.

The general secretary race remains competitive, with Kukku Parameswaran among the key candidates. Baburaj, who had filed nominations for both general secretary and joint secretary, withdrew from both races. As reported by Deshabhimani, Ansiba Hassan was elected unopposed as Joint Secretary after 12 of the 13 nominees, including Baburaj, withdrew.

Controversy had earlier surrounded the candidacy of individuals facing allegations. Many members publicly opposed Baburaj's participation, stating that those under scrutiny should refrain from contesting. Baburaj's withdrawal followed shortly after.

AMMA Awaits New Leadership in Key Posts

The vice president's role is being contested by Jayan Cherthala, Nasser Latif, and Lakshmipriya, whereas the treasurer post has two candidates: Anoop Chandran and Unni Shivapal.

Of the 11 executive committee seats, four are reserved for women. According to reports, in the general category, eight actors, including Joy Mathew, whose presidential nomination was rejected, are contesting for seven seats. Meanwhile, five female actors are vying for the four reserved committee positions.

With the final list of candidates expected to be announced soon, attention now turns to whether AMMA will see its first woman president in Shwetha Menon or whether Devan will take the helm. Either way, the outcome is set to shape the organization's leadership for the coming term.
