Barroz OTT Release: Mohanlal's ambitious fantasy venture Barroz: Guardian of Treasures, marking his debut as a director, is set to arrive on Disney+ Hotstar soon. Produced under Antony Perumbavoor's Aashirvad Cinemas, the Malayalam film features Mohanlal in the lead role, supported by a global cast, including Maya Rao West, Cesar Lorente Raton, Ignacio Mateos, Kallirroi Tziafeta, Nerea Camacho, and Tuhin Menon.

Released on December 25, 2024, in 3D formats to coincide with Christmas, Barroz received a mixed-to-negative response from audiences and critics. While its 3D effects, cinematography, and production design were praised, the screenplay and performances drew criticism. Unfortunately, the film faced a tough box-office fate, incurring significant losses reportedly exceeding ₹130 crores.

Disney+ Hotstar announced the streaming premiere of Barroz through their social media platforms, teasing fans with the line, "The magic of Barroz: The Guardian of Treasures is coming soon to Disney+ Hotstar!" Although the exact release date remains under wraps, reports suggest the film might debut on the OTT platform in the final week of January 2025.

Barroz Cast

The fantasy film Barroz: Guardian of Treasures features Mohanlal in the titular role as Barroz, a Malabari slave to Vasco da Gama. The film boasts a diverse cast, including Maya Rao West as Isa Ron/Isabella da Gama and Ignacio Mateos as Cristóvão da Gama, the Portuguese Viceroy. Notable performances include Tuhin Menon as Ron Madhav, Kallirroi Tziafeta as Theresa da Gama, and Guru Somasundaram as S. P. Subramanyam, a security officer.

Supporting roles are portrayed by Cesar Lorente Raton as Mendoza, a museum curator, and Joshua Okesalako as Muwesi Maria, an occultist. The ensemble also includes Melvin Gregg Kosisochukwu, Amal P. B., and Kirtana Kumar, with cameo appearances by Pranav Mohanlal, Antony Perumbavoor, and Lydian Nadhaswaram.

The team also included lyricists Vinayak Sasikumar and Lakshmi Sreekumar, costume designer Jyoti Madnani Singh, and choreographers Brinda and Prasanna. With post-production overseen by Nidhin Chandran and designs by Oldmonks, the film reflected a meticulous effort from a global and versatile crew.
