Chotta Mumbai Re-Release Box Office Collection: Mohanlal And Anwar Rasheed's Film Enters Day 3 On A High Note

Chotta Mumbai Re-Release Box Office Collection: The re-release of Chotta Mumbai, the 2007 Malayalam action-comedy headlined by Mohanlal, has completed two successful days in theaters. The digitally remastered 4K Dolby Atmos version of the film hit select screens on June 6, 2025, and early reports suggest a strong showing at the box office despite limited promotions and fewer shows compared to previous re-releases of Malayalam films.
According to film industry tracker AB George, the film grossed approximately ₹40 lakh on its opening day-₹37 lakh from Kerala and ₹3 lakh from Gulf centers. This makes Chotta Mumbai the third-highest opening for a Malayalam film re-release, following Spadikam and Manichithrathazhu. AB George has pointed out that unlike its predecessors, Chotta Mumbai didn't benefit from extensive marketing or a wide release, which makes the current figures notable.
On Day 2, the film reportedly saw an increase in footfall, particularly in single-screen and multiplex theaters across both urban and semi-urban centers in Kerala. Though exact figures for the second day are yet to be officially confirmed, early trends indicate that the day's collections may have exceeded the first day's numbers.
Mohanlal's Chotta Mumbai: Fans Revisit the Cult as It Hits Screens Again
Chotta Mumbai, helmed by Anwar Rasheed and penned by Benny P. Nayarambalam, follows Vasco da Gama (played by Mohanlal), a small-time hustler in Fort Kochi, and his loyal gang of friends. The film combines action and comedy in a storyline that explores friendship, family dynamics, and run-ins with local crime figures and law enforcement. The supporting cast includes Kalabhavan Mani, Bhavana, Sai Kumar, Jagathy Sreekumar, and Indrajith Sukumaran, among others.
The re-release has sparked renewed interest in the film's characters, especially Mohanlal's Vasco, affectionately known as "Thala" by his friends. Fans have been revisiting the film not only for its narrative but also for its music by Rahul Raj, which continues to resonate with audiences.
As Chotta Mumbai enters Day 3 of its theatrical re-release, the coming days will be crucial in determining its overall performance. Whether it can sustain momentum and climb higher in the ranks of Malayalam re-release box office successes remains to be seen.
