Controversy Sparks Over Mohanlal's Prayer For Mammootty At Sabarimala Temple: Religious Debate Erupts

Mohanlal s Prayer for Mammootty At Sabarimala Sparks Debate

Mohanlal's Prayer For Mammootty At Sabarimala Sparks Controversy: A controversy has erupted over actor Mohanlal's recent visit to the Sabarimala temple, where he reportedly offered prayers for fellow actor Mammootty. The incident, which took place on March 18, has sparked debates on religious customs and interfaith practices. While some view it as an act of communal harmony, others argue that offering Hindu prayers on behalf of a Muslim individual raises theological concerns.

Mohanlal, who has been busy promoting his upcoming film L2: Empuraan, visited Sabarimala and performed a puja at the temple. According to temple records, he made an offering in Mammootty's name, referring to him by his birth name, Muhammed Kutty, along with his birth star, Vishakham. A receipt documenting the puja later surfaced on social media, triggering widespread discussions.

While many saw the gesture as a sign of Mohanlal's deep friendship with Mammootty, some critics, including journalist and political observer O Abdullah, argued that if the offering was made with Mammootty's knowledge, it contradicts Islamic principles. In an audio message shared online, Abdullah stated, "If Mohanlal did it as part of his belief, there is no issue. But if Mammootty had requested it or was aware of it, it goes against Islamic teachings. He should clarify his stance, and religious scholars should weigh in on the matter."

When asked about his prayers for Mammootty and their close bond at a recent event in Chennai, Mohanlal said, 'Why should I explain my personal prayers? I went to Sabarimala and performed a puja for my friend. Someone from the Travancore Devaswom Board might have released that receipt, but praying for a friend should not be a public matter. Many people say they will pray for someone, but they don't. I did it because he is my friend and brother.'

Mohanlal also mentioned that Mammootty had a minor health issue but assured that he is doing fine now. 'It was nothing serious, just a minor setback. Everyone faces such issues from time to time,' he added.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal's statement that the puja receipt might have been released by someone from the Travancore Devaswom Board, which manages the temple, was denied by the board. The board refuted any wrongdoing, clarifying that the leaked receipt belonged to the devotee's copy and was not an official document from their end.
