Detective Ujjwalan Box Office Collection: The Malayalam crime investigation thriller Detective Ujjwalan, featuring Dhyan Sreenivasan in the lead role, has completed its first three days at the Kerala box office with a gross collection reportedly exceeding ₹1.7 crore. Released on May 23, the film is produced by Sophia Paul under the Weekend Blockbusters banner and marks the second installment of the Weekend Cinematic Universe. It is also the directorial debut for the duo Indraneel Gopeekrishnan and Rahul G.
Despite heavy rains in Kerala during its opening weekend, Detective Ujjwalan has managed to draw audiences to theaters, suggesting steady interest in the film. According to box office analyst AB George, the film's budget was around ₹4.5 crore, which is slightly higher than Dhyan Sreenivasan's previous projects that mostly ranged between ₹3.5 and ₹4 crore.
AB George noted that Dhyan Sreenivasan continues to enjoy goodwill among viewers, reflected in the solid collection figures over the first few days. However, he also pointed out the importance of script choices for Dhyan's career, indicating that while he has potential, selecting quality scripts is crucial to sustaining his position in the industry, particularly for small-budget films in the ₹3 to ₹5 crore range.

The film's story is set in the village of Plaachikkaavu, where the titular detective Ujjwalan finds himself engaged in a tense intellectual battle against a mysterious adversary. The narrative centers on the detective's wit and investigative skills as he unravels complex challenges.
Alongside Dhyan, the cast includes Siju Wilson, Rony David Raj, Kottayam Nazeer, Seema G Nair, and several others. The technical crew features Prem Akkattu and Sraiyanti handling cinematography, Chaman Chakko on editing, and music composed by Rzee. The film's production involved a wide team, including executive producer Manuel Cruz Darwin, art director Koyaz M, and action choreographer Thavasi Raj, among others.
With the initial box office numbers encouraging, the film's performance over the coming days will determine if it can maintain momentum and be considered commercially successful within its budget constraints.
