Drishyam 3: Jeethu Joseph Confirms Hindi Version Based On His Script, Simultaneous Release Eyed - Report

Drishyam 3 Update: Director Jeethu Joseph has confirmed that the upcoming Hindi version of Drishyam 3 will be based entirely on his script, dispelling earlier reports that hinted at a divergent storyline for Bollywood. In an interview with Reporter Live, Jeethu Joseph clarified that the new installment of the long-running thriller franchise is being developed with a unified narrative for its Malayalam, Hindi, and potentially Telugu versions.
Speaking to Reporter Live, Jeethu Joseph emphasized that Drishyam remains his original story and that he has not sold its rights to anyone else for reworking. "Drishyam is my story. I haven't given the rights to anyone else, so reports that Bollywood is working on a new version are inaccurate," he said. "Abhishek Pathak, the director of the Hindi version, visited me in Kochi. They are waiting for my script. I am currently writing it, and once it's ready, I will share it with them as well."
Jeethu Joseph also revealed that talks are underway for a simultaneous release of the film in three languages-Malayalam, Hindi, and Telugu. While the Telugu version has not been officially confirmed, Jeethu Joseph mentioned that the Telugu producers have expressed interest and are in touch with Aashirvad Cinemas, the production house behind the Malayalam original. "There is a high chance that I'll be giving the script for the Telugu version too," he said.
The move toward a coordinated release across languages is reportedly being pushed by Bollywood producers, who are wary of the plot being revealed through the Malayalam version if it were to release first. "Nowadays, even non-Malayalis follow the Drishyam series closely. If the Malayalam version comes out first, many will watch it, and that will impact the Bollywood release," Jeethu Joseph explained.
No final release date has been announced, but Aashirvad Cinemas recently confirmed that filming for the Malayalam Drishyam 3 is set to begin in October 2025. An announcement video with the caption, "October 2025-the camera turns back to Georgekutty. The past never stays silent," featured glimpses of Joseph, actor Mohanlal, and producer Antony Perumbavoor.
Thriller Franchise Remains Active Over a Decade Later
Drishyam, which debuted in 2013, was a major turning point in Malayalam cinema and was widely acclaimed for its suspenseful narrative and Mohanlal's nuanced performance. The film follows Georgekutty, a cable TV operator, who goes to great lengths to protect his family after a crime occurs. It was later followed by Drishyam 2 in 2021. The franchise has since been remade in multiple Indian and international languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Sinhala, and Chinese.
With the third installment now in development across languages, Drishyam continues to maintain its relevance over a decade after its original release.
