Empuraan Advance Booking: Mohanlal And Prithviraj Sukumaran's Movie Crosses ₹50 Crore In Pre-Sales

Empuraan Advance Booking: The anticipation surrounding Mohanlal's upcoming action thriller Empuraan is reaching unprecedented heights. As the second installment in the Lucifer trilogy, the film has already created a massive buzz, and the numbers prove it. According to industry sources, Empuraan has amassed over ₹50 crore in worldwide advance ticket sales for the weekend-a staggering feat for a Malayalam film.
Box Office Anticipation Builds
The excitement for Empuraan has been building ever since its official announcement in 2019. Now, with just days left for its grand release on March 27, 2025, the film's advance booking numbers are setting new records. Film industry tracker AB George recently shared on social media that the worldwide advance ticket sales for the weekend have crossed ₹53 crore. Fans and trade analysts alike are predicting a historic opening at the box office.
With such strong pre-sales, Empuraan is on track to become one of the biggest releases in Malayalam cinema history. Given that it will be released in standard and IMAX formats, marking a first for a Malayalam film, expectations are sky-high.
The Journey from Lucifer to Empuraan
When Lucifer hit theaters in 2019, it became an industry-defining film, breaking several box office records. Director Prithviraj Sukumaran, along with writer Murali Gopy, had envisioned it as a trilogy from the very beginning. While the COVID-19 pandemic delayed production, it also allowed the filmmakers to expand the film's scale and storytelling.
The screenplay for Empuraan was finalized in mid-2022, and after extensive pre-production work, filming commenced on October 5, 2023, in Faridabad. The movie was shot across multiple locations, including Shimla, Leh, the UK, the US, Chennai, Gujarat, Hyderabad, Mumbai, the UAE, and Kerala, making it a truly global production.
Produced by Aashirvad Cinemas, Sree Gokulam Movies, and Lyca Productions, Empuraan also marks Lyca Productions' first venture into Malayalam cinema.
Star-Studded Cast and International Talent
Mohanlal reprises his role as Khureshi Ab'raam / Stephen Nedumpally, and he is joined by a stellar ensemble cast, including Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Abhimanyu Singh, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Saikumar, Baiju Santhosh, Kishore, Fazil, Sachin Khedekar, Saniya Iyappan, Nyla Usha, Giju John, Nandhu, Shivaji Guruvayoor, Jaise Jose, Murugan Martin, Manikuttan, Aneesh G. Menon, and Sshivada, . Notably, the film also features international actors such as Jerome Flynn (of Game of Thrones fame), Andrea Tivadar, Alexx O'Nell and Eriq Ebouaney, further elevating its global appeal.
The technical crew behind Empuraan is equally impressive. The film's music is composed by Deepak Dev, cinematography is handled by Sujith Vaassudev, and Akhilesh Mohan is in charge of editing. The action sequences, which are expected to be one of the film's highlights, have been choreographed by Stunt Silva.
Trailer Gains Massive Viewership
With just a few days left before the big release, the excitement was further fueled by the launch of the film's official trailer on March 20, 2025. Within hours, the trailer racked up millions of views, and as of now, it has surpassed the 10 million mark across various languages. The film's teaser, which was released on January 26, had already set the stage for an electrifying response.
Given the success of Lucifer, there are high expectations for its sequel. While trade analysts predict that Empuraan could perform well at the box office, how it will ultimately be received remains to be seen. With record-breaking advance bookings, the film is set for a strong opening, and all eyes are on its release on March 27.
