Mohanlal Makes History With Empuraan Advance Bookings: Featuring the legendary Mohanlal in an intriguing role, Prithviraj Sukumaran's directorial sequel titled 'Empuraan' aka Lucifer 2, set a remarkable record at the box office in Advance Bookings. The movie which is going to hit the screens on a pan-India level on March 27 is now the only South-Indian film with all-time highest in advance bookings in Malayalam. Mohanlal's film erased Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 and Thalapathy Vijay's LEO movie records to date. Fans of the superstar are into a celebratory phase as the movie is five days away from its worldwide premiere. The trailer of this highly-awaited sequel gained 9.5 Million views and about 500K likes on YouTube platform.

L2: Empuraan is funded on a whopping budget by Subaskaran Allirajah and Antony Perumbavoor under the Lyca Productions and Aashirvad Cinemas banner. The movie's Telugu remake starring megastar Chiranjeevi, titled 'GodFather' remained a box office flop but the craze for this sequel is high. To cash in on the same, the makers planned for a pan-India release in multiple languages.

L2: Empuraan Synopsis

The movie picks up from where Lucifer left off. It follows the life of Stephen Nedumpally, who is also living another life as Kureshi Ab'raam, a powerful crime syndicate kingpin. His journey takes a new turn after family secrets emerge, unravelling a deadly game of power, survival, and revenge.

Empuraan was announced in June 2019, and the movie had to undergo the COVID-19 pandemic rescheduling conflicts. Writer of the film, Murali Gopy used the opportunity to elaborate the script and its scope. The movie's shooting began in August, and the very popular Kollywood production house, Lyca Production, entered the project in September 2023, making their Malayalam debut. Empuraan was extensively shot across the UK, the USA, UAE, Kerala, Chennai, Shimla, Leh, Gujarat, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. Check out the theatrical trailer here.

Empuraan Advance Bookings

As soon as the movie's advance bookings began, Mohanlal's film was off to a glowing start and the trailer's hype added to it. None of them imagined the scale of the openings until Empuraan surpassed the magic number of ticket sales in Kerala and India. Given the craze and time for the film's theatrical debut on March 27, Mohanlal is going to set a benchmark for the rest in the Indian cinema for the opening day collections. From the advance bookings, it looks like Empuraan will open to Rs 45 Crore and above on day 1 in India.

Empuraan's pre-bookings set a crazy record as an all-time highest one to date in India as well as Kerala. While Thalapathy Vijay's film 'LEO' held the title for the highest pre-bookings in Kerala by selling 82,000 tickets in one hour, Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 The Rule is slightly below with as many as 80,000 tickets in 60 minutes. Now, Mohanlal's Empuraan established a MASSive record in advance bookings by selling a whopping 96,000 tickets, which is a rare feat to achieve and to beat.

Lucifer movie was produced exclusively by Mohanlal's home banner Aashirvaad Films, helmed by Antony Perumbavoor. The movie which was released in March, 2019 was made on a budget of Rs 30 Crore. It went on to break many records by earning about Rs 127 Crore gross at the worldwide box office. The first instalment featured actors Vivek Oberoi, Kalabhavan Shajohn, and Saniya Iyappan among others, who are reprising their roles in Empuraan. The unit will begin work on the third instalment after Prithviraj Sukumaran gets a bit of leisure from his other projects including SS Rajamouli-Mahesh Babu's SSMB29.

The movie stars a plethora of notable and talented actors along with Mohanlal including Prithviraj Sukumaran himself as Zayed Masood, Tovino Thomas as Jathin Ramdas, Manju Warrier as Priyadarshini Ramdas, Abhimanyu Singh as Balraj, Indrajith Sukumaran as Govardhan, Jerome Flynn as Boris Oliver, Eriq Ebouaney as Kabuga, Kishore as Karthik, Andrea Tivadar as Michele Menuhin, Suraj Venjaramoodu as Sajanachandran, Saikumar as Mahesha Varma, Baiju Santhosh as Murugan, Fazil as Father Nedumpally, Sachin Khedekar as PK Ramdas, Saniya Iyappan as Jhanvi, Nyla Usha, Giju John, Nandhu, Shivaji Guruvayoor, Manikuttan, Aneesh G. Menon, Sshivada, Alexx O'Nell, Satyajit Sharma, Shubhangi Latkar, Nikhat Khan and Jaise Jose among others in key roles.

The action-thriller's cinematography was handled by Sujith Vaassudev and edited by Akhilesh Mohan. Deepak Dev composed the film's entire music and sound. Murali Gopy wrote the movie's story and script.
