The Journey of Empuraan

From its inception, Lucifer was planned as a trilogy. The success of the first film paved the way for Empuraan, which was officially announced in June 2019. Though initially set for a mid-2020 production, the COVID-19 pandemic caused delays. During this time, writer Murali Gopy expanded the narrative, enhancing its scope while ensuring it remained accessible as a standalone film, even for those unfamiliar with Lucifer.

The screenplay was finalized in July 2022, followed by the start of pre-production in August. Lyca Productions joined in September 2023, marking their entry into Malayalam cinema. Due to financial disputes, Gopalam came on board as a co-producer in March 2025. Deepak Dev has composed the film's soundtrack.

Filming took place over 145 days, from October 2023 to December 2024, across locations in India, the UK, the US, and the UAE. Empuraan also makes history as the first Malayalam film to be released in IMAX and EPIQ formats.
