Empuraan Box Office Collection: The Malayalam action thriller Empuraan premiered worldwide on March 27, 2025. Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and written by Murali Gopy, the film is the second installment in the Lucifer trilogy, starring Mohanlal. Produced by Aashirvad Cinemas and Sree Gokulam Movies, with Lyca Productions presenting, the film also features Prithviraj, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, and international actors Jerome Flynn and Eriq Ebouaney. Notably, Empuraan became the first Malayalam film to release in IMAX.
According to film industry tracker AB George's latest update on X (formerly Twitter), Empuraan's real-time worldwide collection has surpassed ₹150 crore. He highlighted that the film is experiencing a strong Day 4 across all markets, maintaining steady momentum and moving towards all-time blockbuster status.
Empuraan Controversy
Amid its commercial success, the film has faced controversy, with right-wing groups, including the RSS, criticizing its depiction of Hindutva leaders and the 2002 Gujarat riots. In response to the backlash, the makers announced some changes, with a revised version set to release next week. Addressing the issue, Mohanlal expressed regret over the distress caused by certain political and social themes, affirming the team's commitment to removing such elements.
Empuraan Storyline
Amid political unrest in Kerala, Chief Minister Jathin Ramdas aligns with a rising right-wing party led by a figure associated with past communal violence. Meanwhile, a global intelligence operation hunts the elusive Khureshi-Ab'ram, whose past is entangled in personal vengeance and international crime. As conspiracies unravel, old rivalries reignite, setting the stage for a decisive confrontation.
Empuraan Cast And Crew
The film stars Mohanlal as Khureshi Ab'raam, also known as Stephen Nedumpally, with Pranav Mohanlal playing his younger version. Prithviraj Sukumaran and Karthikeya Dev portray Zayed Masood at different ages, while Manju Warrier and Tovino Thomas play Priyadarshini and Jathin Ramdas, respectively. The cast also includes Abhimanyu Singh, Sukant Goel, Indrajith Sukumaran, and Suraj Venjaramoodu. International actors Jerome Flynn, Andrea Tivadar, and Eriq Ebouaney feature alongside Nikhat Khan, Saniya Iyappan, Fazil, and Sachin Khedekar. Cameos include Antony Perumbavoor and Rick Yune.

Sujith Vaassudev handles cinematography, Deepak Dev composes the music, and Akhilesh Mohan edits.
